Due to the cars, the style of the clothing, and the retro shoes we can tell this story takes place in the eighties. Forrest always wears a blue plaid shirt in the first scene of each age transition. During his encounter with President Kennedy he uses the lavatory and while washing his hands we see the pictures of Marilyn Monroe, a photo of the Kennedy brothers, toothbrushes and a bar of soap. This implies scandal to the squeaky clean reputation of the two brothers. One other example is the newscast of the hurricane when Forrest is working his shrimping boat. The reporter is in front telling the information about the hurricane, then in the center is the wreckage of all the damaged boats, and finally in the rear is Forrest on his shrimping boat, entering right as the newscaster says only one boat survived the hurricane. In the running scene, the viewer sees a rugged man running across town in tattered clothes and bare legs. Another change throughout the scene is that of Forrest’s hair, and beard grow significantly showing that he no longer cares for his appearance. The wide shots in the running scene show the majestic natural settings across America. We also see some beautiful and simplistic landscape, which is in many ways similar to the character of…

Nearly everyone who has succeeded in some venture of life has at one point encountered critics and criticism. The events throughout the movie, Rudy, directed by David Anspaugh, are no different. Rudy, through the course of his entire life, had been told by everyone that chasing his dream of playing Notre Dame football would only cause him heartache. Despite all hindrances, Rudy, played by Sean Astin, accomplished his dream, and is to this day the last Notre Dame football player to be carried off the field. My first choice would have been a movie called Freedom Writers, however, since Brittany has already discussed it I’ll discuss another movie. The movie that is the next most powerful story I know is called “The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life Is Not a Fairy Tale.” Most of you probably have seen it before, if not you probably remember Fantasia Barrino whom was the winner of American Idol: Season 3. When Fantasia Barrino was in high school she was raped, she felt so alone after the attack and thought no one would believe her so she dropped out of school. Now Fantasia was a teenage dropout who had no money, no education and no chance at a real future. At 16, Fantasia found herself in an abusive relationship that left her pregnant and lost. But she refused to give up on her dreams. This movie tells how this inspiring young single mom used her incredible voice to become an American Idol, as well as a Grammy®-nominated, platinum-selling recording artist. This movie was very emotional because when the movie got towards the middle I was crying my eyes out. This movie has made Fantasia Barrino my idol and it had a really huge impact on me because my story is similar to hers so I can relate. The author of this movie had an effect of her audience by the way the movie was interesting from beginning to the end. Another way is because this movie is very encouraging to young women and even some men too. In my narrative next week I would like to write about never giving up on your dreams.…

His change is shown through his school work, as it increasingly gets better from when he was in the public school. The relationship he creates with Forrester allows him to connect with someone on a deeper level that he never has before. He is able to finally express himself through his writing. “Under Forrester’s tutelage, Jamal injects new passion into his writing and dedicates himself more” (Movielocity, 2001, pg. 2). The relationship between Forrester and Jamal helps to change Jamal’s writing into more passionate work. The change allows him to show more interest in his school work and he is able to get the good grades he is expected to make with his test scores. William also received help in his problems of social anxiety through his relationship with Jamal. Through Jamal’s help and him caring about William’s past, William is able to see the importance of having a friend. Due to their relationship, he feels safe enough that he can finally leave his home and explore the world. Variety (2000) states, “An unlikely relationship begins. The main character is named Troy. Troy can predict the plays in any football game, if you ask me that is pretty amazing. Some of Troy’s good qualities are that he is very athletic, and a very smart boy. He plays on a football team and is the best quarterback in the league. He also got all A’s on his report card. One of Troy’s bad qualities is that he never takes no for an answer. After the NFL star almost gets him arrested for coming to his home after he told him to stay away. Troy still pushes his door open just to prove that he can really predict the plays while they watched Monday night football on TV.…

I have chosen a movie that I have watched recently with fellow peers and teammates from Donovan Catholic High School. The title of this spectacular movie is “When the Game Stands Tall.” The significance of the title designates to the great coaching staff which reached into the hearts of the football players, not only making them outstanding, but making them grow into true men with heart, dedication, and compassion. Based on an extraordinary true story, this movie is about lessons and depicts some such as hard work pays off, play with pride, it is not about the streak but about the team, and it does not matter whether your stronger or faster, it matters if you play with heart! This movie is about De La Salle High School having the greatest winning streak in all of football history. With 151 wins and counting this team did not worry about anything but to continue the streak or be on the “Streak Team,” later on learning of what it actually took to carry on that special streak. This movie takes place in California, “The Golden State.” The setting is important because some of the best football teams reside in this state giving importance the entire movie. There is a book to this spectacular movie in which I have not read but plan to.…
