I. A study group shamed Elle by prohibiting her from joining based on the assumption that she lacked intelligence. Warner also shamed Elle by speculating that she wouldn’t get Callahan’s internship because she’s not intelligent enough. The guidance counsellor even shames Elle by recommending that she apply to schools other than Harvard because she’s a fashion student and it’s a top three school.
II. Elle is upset when the study group shamed her but quickly transformed her emotions into hard work. Warren’s harsh words pushed Elle to get more prepared for law school and ultimately become a top student. The comments from her guidance counsellor hardly phased her because she was so focused on her goals. Elle’s defense mechanism heavily relies on taking negative energy and turning it into something positive. Rather than becoming irate, she simply proves that she is

Warner breaks up with her because Elle is not serious about her education, she decides to follow his advice and become a law student: “Once Warner sees me as a serious law student, he'll want me back. It's a completely brilliant plan!” (Legally). Elle grows up in a relaxed family where being a lawyer or a doctor is not necessary, this is a sharp contrast to Warner's family. Elle has completely changed her career path to impress Warner for the feeling of being in love, when in fact she may not be sure who exactly is her perfect man. Warner sees her as low class because he feels she is a pretty but not smart. Warner is not this person, during their breakup, he claims: “But the thing is, if I'm gonna be a senator by the time I'm thirty—I can't keep dicking around” (Legally). Elle sees Warner as a perfect human being because of the feeling of love, and takes this quote insult as advice rather than as criticism. Elle yearns to love someone and feel loved, so she looks past a person's character. To begin with, Remy’s rejection from various social groups leads him to become isolated and insecure. For instance, Remy’s first rejection occurs when Fudge disregards Remy’s study time and also when Remy calls the Columbia University campus police due to Fudge’s party disrupting the peace within their on campus apartment. Lastly, when Remy moves out of the apartment due to Fudge’s unwillingness to compromise can be seen as Remy’s final rejection. Those minor confrontations resemble Remy’s rejection from the minorities’ social group. Moreover, Remy’s social rejection from the fraternity also provokes him to feel isolated and insecure. In particular, after Kristen runs from the fraternity’s house, Billy soon follows her; however, Remy misinterprets the situation and praises Billy for having sexual relations with Kristen. Following the incident, the fraternity dismisses Remy’s attempt to be involved which causes Remy to feel isolated and insecure due to his inability to bind with his peers.…

“You do everything wrong Stacy!” Grace exclaimed. “I told you that I wanted you to get turquoise and lavender ribbons to decorate the gym for the school dance, these are totally the wrong colors!” she explained vigorously. Grace was so dramatic and agitated about this minor detail that neither she nor Stacy realized how unreasonable it was. All Stacy was worried about was the she once again disappointed her best friend. In reality, Grace was not really worried about that minor occurrence; she really was only worked up over what had been going on in her house the night before, and what has been going on for years. Her parents have been non-stop bickering for years, barely paying attention to Grace and how beaten down she felt because of their behavior. Grace had what everyone thought was the perfect life, she was rich, and had what seemed like a loving family. Grace’s family also made largesse donations to the school, which made…

On Friday night, May 3rd at & p.m., my mother and I attended the opening night of Legally Blonde in the Buena P.A.C. I must begin by saying that I am slightly biased towards one of the actors who just so happens to be my sister, so the roles of Chutney, the girl who accidentally murdered her father, and a Delta Nu sister have never been played more perfectly in my eyes. While I found the play both amusing and enjoyable, there were some big issues as far as opening night goes. Things like lack of projection (on top of some serious microphone issues, which I cannot blame the actors for), actors forgetting lines, and sloppy blocking, especially in many of the dances during the musical numbers, all took away from the overall experience of the show. However, there were definitely some things I absolutely loved, which were mostly specific characters. Also, the quality of the singing in all the musical numbers was very high, which is something you don’t see often in a high school musical production. That being said, I thought it was worth my five dollars, and a great way for Buena to end its 2012-13 season.…

The movie tackles the tricky subject of stereotypes assigned to women, and how much they can be damaging to a woman’s pride, career and life. People love the movie for Reese Witherspoon’s portrayal of a young woman trying to impress a man, by getting into and succeeding at Harvard Law. The main character struggles the entire movie with the assumptions people make of her, writing her off as some blonde joke, yet she works to overcome these stereotypes and find out what really makes her happy. While this movie is wonderful for its character development, I find the main character to be too much of a Mary Sue, as they make her a little too perfect, and while she struggles, the idea that she might prove everyone wrong and succeed at everything is a little too unrealistic for some…
