Using the data and your economic knowledge, evaluate different economic policies that could be used to encourage schoolchildren to undertake more exercise. (25 marks) Exercise is a merit good, which means the government feels that people will under-consume. Exercise is socially desirable and is under provided as the market mechanism allocates fewer resources to the supply of exercise due to the positive externalities. In order to encourage the schoolchildren the possible policies that the government could increase the consumption of exercise would be to offer subsidies on exercise related products, provision of information about the benefits of exercising and the cash incentives.…

Define mobility. The movement of individuals from a particular place or position to another whilst ensuring that their independence is maintained. 1.2 Explain how different health conditions may affect and be affected by mobility. If a person had a fracture of a bone and does not heal quickly or may become infected which can restrict movement of a persons hand or leg, which makes it difficult for moving around. Stiff, painful, swollen and inflamed joints are the result of arthritis and can restrict movement. 1.3 Outline the effects that reduced mobility may have on an individuals wellbeing. Physically, reduced mobility can result in blood clots, stiffness of joints, swelling of feet and ankles, pressure sores these can be very painful for the individual. Emotionally, an individual may feel depressed, low in themselves and negative. Socially, reduced mobility could mean the reduction of friends and places to go and the dependence on others. 1.4 Describe the benefits of maintaining and improving mobility. improved muscular strength and physical health fitness, greater independence as it becomes less necessary to rely on others for health and support needs, there will be more opportunities to do different things and to take part in more activities with different people which will also mean a boost to self-esteem. 2.1 Agree mobility activities with the individual and others. The service user has arthritis in his knees, the carer discusses with the service user the importance of going for his walk which will help him feel less stiff and feel good in himself and reassures him that they would just keep to the recommended length of time 2.2 Remove or minimise hazards in the environment before beginning a mobility activity. The service user wants to try and walk unaided. The carer explains how this is not possible as in line with his care plan it would be safer to walk with his walking frame as this would give him the support he needed particularly as he was a little…

I chose to take the Leisure Interest Measure test because I was being curious to see which of the eight domains of leisure interest scores the low to the highest. The scores I got was 1 for physical, 2 for outdoors, 1 for mechanical, 2.5 for artistic, 1 for service, 2.5 for social, 2.5 for cultural, and 1 for reading domain. I’m not the type pf person who have less interest in leisure activity. I think that I would scores low on eight domains leisure interests because I have the lack of interest in desires activity. I barely think of what type of leisure activity I enjoyed on a regular day of my free times. I was think between physical, outdoor, artistic, social and reading, which of these eight domains of leisure interest I would score highest.…

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease of the central nervous system; it is characterized by demyelination of axons in the brain and spinal cord, with axonal damage or destruction. 1 MS affects predominately patients aged 20-40 years. The symptoms of MS vary, depending in part on the location of lesions within the CNS. Common symptoms include sensory disturbances in the limbs, optic nerve dysfunction, pyramidal tract dysfunction, bladder or bowel dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, ataxia, and diplopia.2 Although there is large variability in symptom manifestation and disease progression, MS is still the most common cause of non- traumatic disability in young adults and is associated with an average reduction in…
The first key word that appears in the textbook about definition of therapeutic recreation is purposeful. To achieve every client or participants’ goals the Therapeutic recreation professionals should always think about the purpose of any plans they are using to accomplish those goals. Utilization and enhancement are another two key words in the definition of TR. Utilization includes actively engaging leisure interests, choices, abilities, and behavior to maintain or improve ability levels in both leisure and nonleisure domains. Enhancement focuses on rebuilding lost leisure skills, identifying new interests, learning new skills, or finding alternative ways to perform skills. And finally, Leisure is the most important word in the definition.…

Leisure occupations are activities that a person engages in for personal satisfaction and pleasure (Hinojosa & Blount, 2014). Occupational therapy practitioners use purposeful activities as a method to restore function and compensation for functional impairment (Hinojosa & Blount, 2014). Before incorporating the meaningful occupation into the intervention plan, an analysis of the activity needs to be conducted. All the information received from the occupational profile must be taken into account when choosing a purposeful activity. The client is a 29 year old female who works as a licensed insurance agent. She works 12 hours a day, five days a week. When she is not working, she takes care of her six month old daughter and…

My personal philosophy towards life and leisure is founded in the belief that one should seek out those moments, events, people and attitudes that bring happiness to one’s life. I believe in spending time with the ones you love and the ones who love you in return as it is these people who help shape your reality, attitudes and life in turn. Since the truth is that no one cares if you are miserable except yourself, I make sure to surround myself with people who enrich my life; those who uplift me and help bring me higher and strive to better myself. I believe it is important to take time to do activities that one loves doing. It doesn’t matter whether these activities are enjoyed alone, with friends or with family, just getting out and doing these activities is beneficial to one’s state of being. When a person takes time to do those things they love, a contentedness results and regardless of any hurt, pain, stress or struggles, they are able to enjoy themselves in that moment. I believe attitude contributes a lot to one’s state of mind and also one’s physical being. All of my life experiences, good and bad alike, have taught me a lot and have helped me grow into the person I am today. I try to remain positive no matter what situation I find myself in. A major driving force in my life is my family. I am a firm believer that one of the most important aspects in life is family. I have a two year old daughter who has changed my life in a positive…
The Routine Activities Theory is an explanation of how a change in a person’s social patterns affects crime rates. At the center of the environmental criminology theory, the Routine Activities Theory examines crimes as events that happen at a specific location and time, involving specific persons and/or objects. There are three components necessary for predatory crimes to occur; a motivated offender, suitable targets, and the absence of a capable guardian. In the event that one is lacking, a predatory crime cannot occur. The Routine Activities Theory gave criminologists the problem analysis triangle or crime triangle. Formulated by Lawrence Cohen and Marcus Felson, it theorizes that a crime will occur when a likely offender, a suitable target,…
