Benefits of Co-curricular Activities
Everyone knows about co-curricular. What some of us don’t know about curriculum is that curriculum is as a body of knowledge to be transmitted, it is also as an attempt to achieve certain ends in students – product, plus it is as a process and it is as praxis(Mark K. Smith 1996, 2000). It gave many benefits to a wide range of students and it may help them in many ways. It is also a part of education where it is held outdoors or indoors. Co-curricular activities are optional and pursued outside the classroom to enrich the course syllabi. They are meant to complement and not interfere with the studies. Some say that it is does intervene with studies but there are many researches which state the benefits of co-curricular activities. This includes improving our health, increasing self motivation and build skills among students.
Firstly, co-curricular activities can improve our health mentally, psychologically, and emotionally. It is good for our mental health because if we do exercise regularly, it regulates blood to the brain. Furthermore, it can encourage the body to generate and also for our heart to pump the blood actively, not only to the related organs but especially the brain. The brain needs more energy when focusing on a specific task. Additional activities stimulate work for both sides of the brains. Each side of the brain is responsible for processing different types of thoughts. Students in general are exposed to logical thinking during their studies, which is processed by the left side of the brain. By doing outdoor activities, the brain will be stimulated to creative thinking, which is processed by the right side of the brain (Zimmer C., 2005). Healthy body leads to a healthy environment. The students will be more comfortable working in a clean, fresh and hygienic environment, and students will take it to the state of mind subconsciously. A healthy physique leads to higher

    I choose Lennie because I thought that he was one of the more interesting and exhilarating characters in Of Mice and Men. For one of the pictures in my collage I have a picture of Lennie which he was described as "...A huge man, shapeless of face with large pale eyes, with wide sloping shoulders...". Also in the book when him and George where walking they described Lennie as "...walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws...". When Lennie and George were running away from Weeds because of what Lennie did he had acted like an animal when he was drinking out of the lake he was described as snorting the water like a horse. When they had stopped at the bushes to take a break for the night like a kid, Lennie mournfully wishes for ketchup to put on his beans as a kid would do. Lennie also kept asking George for a bedtime story "...No…you tell it. It ain't the same if I tell it. Go on…George. How I get to tend the rabbits...". Lennie also had an obsession with rabbits he liked how they felt because he likes to feel soft things. Even though Lennie is described as a nice fella he still has his problems. In the story Lennie was known for liking soft things such as rabbits, womens dress, mice, and Curley's wife's hair, but at the end they either ended up dead or they accuse him of rape. Lennie always "...pinched their heads a little..." after the animals bit him. He says, "...they was dead because they was so little..." but their size doesn't really have anything to do with it. They're dead because Lennie is so big and strong and he doesn't quite understand how to be gentle even though he says "...George I ain't mean no harm, honest George...". I picked these pictures because they described Lennie pretty well and explained his personality and behavior that is why Lennie was one of my favorite characters in Of Mice And Men.…

    It’s a little obvious if one thinks about it and healthy body and healthy mind naturally make sense to go hand in hand and correlate with each other. According to Mary Carmichael a study done to fifth graders that tested and compared physically fitness of a student against their standardized test exam scores and found that those who ended up being the most physically fit also had the higher exam scores is just one of many in this growing research. She states that in most of these tests “…exercise can make people smarter” (Carmichael 1). Carmichael states how exercise can have such a positive effect on one’s brain easily enough, “…aerobic exercise helps the heart pump more blood to the brain, along with the rest of the body. More blood means more oxygen, and thus better-nourished brain cells” (Carmichael 1). Stated like that it is pretty understandable that there are benefits of exercising to the brain. Physical fitness improving brain function and intelligence has been a topic that has been discussed for many years. It is only because today there are machines like MRIs and CAT scans that give concrete proof of the benefits on exercising for a healthy brain. (Carmichael). In a comprehensive description of a specific study done by ASK (Active Smarter Kids) the specific brain waves and reasons behind why exercise could make children smarter was examined (Resaland 1). The study, which lead to much valuable evidence because of the experiments concrete professionally done measures proved that exercising helps increase brain function.
