Lennie not being strong mentally means that he is not very bright in the head. At the beginning of chapter five Lennie kills a puppy and blames the puppy for dying. In the middle of the chapter Curley’s wife comes in and starts talking to Lennie. Curley’s wife then ask Lennie to touch her and he does but things go wrong. As Steinbeck explains in the text, “And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck” (Steinbeck 91). Lennie was trying to keep Curley’s wife quiet because she was screaming while Lennie was grabbing her hair. As he was shaking her he snapped her neck because he was shaking her head. And he was not thinking that he was going to kill her. However, Lennie’s lack of knowledge could make up for his incredible strength. Overall Lennie is a strong man but not so strong in the
