Very few would agree that by Leo taking supplements instead of eating fruits and vegetables in his daily diet it is fine, in fact it appears that there is really no one who agrees that you really cannot replace good nutrition with supplements. In doing my research for this essay I was surprised to find there seems to be little or no evidence supporting supplements in place of healthy eating except in articles where it appears they are actually selling a supplement or diet. The one site I found was called “Bulletproof” where they are selling a diet and way of life, and there was article titled “Why Getting Your Nutrition Only from Food is A Bad Idea”. Some of the areas they discuss are soil and water depletion in relation to nutrition in food, Grain-fed Meat & Cooked/Conventional Dairy, low calorie and low nutrient diets, Supplementation May Help You Live Longer, and more. For example, they discuss the need for supplements due to grains, legumes and dairy being nutrient deficient because they contain relatively small amounts of nutrients and what they do have is malabsorbed. They state that now most fruits and vegetables are grown to increase sugar content and not their nutrient value making them artificially high in fructose and sugar and lower in key nutrients.
