Leonidas I Leonidas I was born on 530 B.C. and became a king of the city-state Sparta from about 490 B.C. until his death at the Battle of Thermopylae against the Persian army in 480 B.C. Even though Leonidas died at the Battle of Thermopylae, he was seen as a heroic sacrifice because he sent most of his army when he realized that the Persian army had outwitted them. Everything that is known about Leonidas I come from the wok of the Greek historian Herodotus. Leonidas I is one of the most important figures of Spartan history and Greek as well. Leonidas symbolizes the bravery and the courage of the whole Greece. His decisions to stay and fight with his 300 soldiers against a thousand Persians was very bravery. This is why he is remembered today because of his bravery and courage. Finally, I am going to compare Leonidas I to Mother Teresa. Leonidas was brave for staying and fighting with only 300 soldiers when Persia had thousands. Mother Teresa was brave because devoted her life to making the lives of the sick and poor in the world better, and spoke to others and helped give a human face to the issue of poverty.
