One difference comes in the form of color. While both works have color, they have very different color palettes. Les Demoiselles d’Avignon has a very basic color palette of mainly shades of red, blue, and taupe. The figures of the women range from the lighter to medium shades of red. Splashes of blue, dark red, and taupe fill in the background. Untitled (Dream Series) possesses a much bolder color palette filled with bright hues of pink, blue, purple, green, and red. The wide variety of colors are on a grey background, enhancing the perspective of the brightness of each shade. The outline of the women throughout the painting consists of layers of different shades of pink around solid black, giving the illusion of a neon sign you might see in a store window. Another differentiating aspect between the works of art are patterns. Les Demoiselles d’Avignon contains no patterns. However, Untitled (Dream Series) teams with them. Each rectangular box is filled with one of several contrasting patterns. They consist of different forms of lines such as wavy, straight, curved, and many more. One of the final differences between Picasso’s and Gordy’s painting is repetitiveness.
