Richard Ceballos had been employed since 1989 as a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which at the time was headed by Gil Garcetti. After the defense attorney in a pending criminal case contacted Ceballos about his motion to challenge a critical search warrant based on inaccuracies in the supporting affidavit, Ceballos conducted his own investigation and determined that the affidavit contained serious misrepresentations. Ceballos contacted the deputy sheriff who had sworn out the affidavit, but was not satisfied by his explanations. Ceballos then communicated his findings to his supervisors and submitted a memorandum in which he recommended dismissal of the case. A meeting was subsequently held to discuss the affidavit with his superiors and officials from the sheriff's department, which Ceballos claimed became heated and accusatory of his role in handling the case. Despite Ceballos’ concerns, his supervisor decided to proceed with the prosecution. The criminal trial court held a hearing on the motion, during which Ceballos was called by the defense to recount his observations about the affidavit. The trial court nevertheless denied the motion and upheld the warrant.…
Both were starting to feel the agonizing effects of the 5000m and were giving it their last ounce of strength for the final 100 yards. The tape was upon them and they dove right past the judges in a photo finish. Louie later said, “you couldn't put a hair between us.” The stadium erupted into cheers and then fell silent, anxiously awaiting the judges decision, as were both Lash and Zamperini. Finally, you could hear slight microphone noises, the announcers were ready. Zamperini, he said, had won! Alas, upon further review they recanted their decision and gave the match to Lash. That didn't phase anyone in the Zamperini household or anyone in Torrance because “The boy with the fast finish” secured himself a place on the Olympic team!…
Bix Beiderbecke was one of the most popular Jazz musicians of the 1920’s. He was born Leon Bix Beiderbecke on March 10, 1903 in Davenport, Iowa. His father was a coal and lumber merchant and his mother a church organist. Although he did take lessons for a short time, his teacher grew frustrated with him and his improvisations and refusal to read the music. He learned to play by ear. He was the first great white Jazz cornetist. He was inspired by records of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band and by hearing bands on the Mississippi riverboats. His love for music caused him to be sent away to military school in 1921 because his father thought that music was not a real job that would earn him respect and money. The school was close to Chicago which at the time was the center of jazz music. He was kicked out of military school because he often missed curfew due to him being out listening to bands. He joined his first Jazz band the Wolverines in 1923. Over the years he played with many different Jazz and dance bands. He died from Pneumonia complicated by his alcoholism in 1931.…
NXT is praised for its simplistic booking and match structure; this match is a prime example of that. Joe punished Balor the entire match as if he was trying to exorcise the frustration that had built towards his former friend over the last few months. Balor did his best to survive the onslaught and in the end he did thus proving that even on his worst day he is the best that NXT has to offer.…

There were no sensations such as Hulkamania. Hulk Hogan started all of that. In 1982 Hogan bribed a worker backstage of an event five hundred dollars to play the song “Eye of the Tiger” when he walked out to the ring. This was the first time in history any wrestler had done this. Hogan had originally asked Vince McMahon senior if he could play entrance music when he walked out to the ring and he said that he would consider. McMahon eventually agreed to letting Hulk do this meaning he had wasted five hundred dollars on bribing the worker but Hogan didn’t see the need to ask for the money back. When Hogan walked out to the ring with the song “Eye of the Tiger” playing in the background there was an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the crowd in regards to the music. So from then on entrance music became a regular occurrence in the WWF and even continued to this day in the WWE. Hogans run in the WWF and WWE was an influential one that didn’t just involve him being the founder of the entrance music. Hogan was also the first superstar to not only be a professional wrestler but also the first to be a moviestar. Hulk Hogan appeared in films such as “Rocky III” and “No Hold Bars”. The events in the movie tied in to Hogan's actual storyline in the WWF. In the movie the main protagonist is a man named Zeus who Hogan has to fight to prove himself. But the fighting was not limited to the film. For several weeks Hogan and Zeus had a heated rivalry. Since Hogan had been the first superstar to ever do this, the idea of a rivalry storyline got fairly positive reactions from the fans. Rivalry storylines are also a common phenomenon that continue to this day, Hogan's being the first left a lasting impact on the WWF and…
In the landmark case of Hendrick Hudson District Board of Education v. Rowley, I believe the Supreme Court’s decision to deny Amy the assistance of an interpreter was fair for several reasons. First of all, she was previously given the services of an interpreter and she did not use them. Instead of relying on the interpreter, Amy used lip reading and asked teachers to repeat instructions. Second, Amy was passing from grade to grade without the use an interpreter. Third, Amy was performing better than…
As Atlanta Consultant John Bevilaque stated, the WWFE “was stepping into an area that is really beyond their current expertise.” The NFL was king: 41% of Americans claimed watching it as their favorite leisure sports activity. The XFL was going to bring football to its roots; a response to the overregulation of the NFL. New rules promised a wide open, fast paced game that fans would love. It would encourage individuality and create stars. The problem was that they didn’t have the players to do it. They had NFL “has-been” and “never-were” players. There was no way that the XFL could be the best in the world at producing football games. In the end, what they had was “regular football, and not very good football.” There were many low scoring games, including a 19-0, scoreless 2nd half game on opening week. Some weeks had games where no team scored over 18 points. No one wanted to watch low scoring, boring football games. Owner Vince McMahon was clearly growing for growth sake, actually viewing it as a “logical extension of the WWF.” Their passion…
Grendel has a difficult time trying to find his place in his own world, and this is made even more difficult by watching the brute, unthinking creatures who seemed to live and breathe without one iota of angst. Towards the end of the novel every piece of mechanical imagery comes together when the goat arrives. Even as it is injured, bleeding, and dying, the goat keeps climbing forward. Unlike the ram, which frustrates Grendel, and the bull, which amuses him, the goat haunts him with its mindless persistence. As the goat keeps climbing toward its imminent death, it also foreshadows Grendel’s upcoming death. While Grendel scorns the stupidity of nature, the novel also asks us to consider whether Grendel, who goes willingly to Beowulf, though…
“Nobody can give everything away. It ain’t healthy,” (Alexie 33). Sherman Alexie’s book of short stories, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, focuses on the life of Native Americans on the Spokane Reservation, specifically focusing on Victor, the main character. In the collection of stories, Victor learns about the damage caused by letting anyone other than himself control his life.…
In his essay, “A Desensitized Society Drenched in Sleaze, ” Jeff Jacoby argues that a sex and violence filled media has desensitized society by making extremely obscene actions almost a norm. According to Jacoby, entertainment through means of television, cinema, and music is so sex and violence drenched that this new generation we live in is accustomed to offensive behavior. Because of the boost of offensive actions in the media, people see such actions as normal to a point where we do not think such acts are offensive anymore as compared to society’s sensitive minds of the past. In addition, he believes that this media desensitizes and corrupts people and their actions, leading them to perform extremely violent, outrageous crimes and behavior. Jacoby concludes that we have grown jaded because “depravity becomes more and more tolerable because less and less scandalizes us” (667).…
Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois both had their own individual approaches for dealing with Black America’s poverty, discrimination, and segregation problems at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. Their opposing strategies both greatly assisted their race through the times of struggle. They fought for the same thing, but had different ways of handling the situation in order to change the country at that time. Although WEB Du Bois’ strategy for immediate integration was a good one, I believe that Booker T Washington’s strategies of gradual integration and focusing on the black race as a whole were more appropriate for the time period of 1877-1915.…
