I think that Hughes’ mantra of “Let America be America again” is accurate, as he doesn't want to revert America to a past decade, which is controversial, because the further back in time you go, the fewer rights minorities have, he wants to make America the dream that people thought it was so long ago. The American dream was being able to come from nothing and being able to provide for your family in a country that was totally free and equal. I think that America as a whole is rooted in things like patriotism, liberty, and equality, but we are having trouble making this more widespread as one of the freedoms we have is freedom of speech, and with being able to say and think what you want there are people who don't think that everyone is equal.…
Langston Hughes’s poem” Harlem”, ask a great question, what happens to a dream deferred? We start out early in our lives with an endless amount of dreams for the future. Dreams for ourselves and dreams on a global scale. As children we dream of being a fireman, a police officer, teacher, or an astronaut. On a global scale we dream of peace and equality. What becomes of those dreams when they are postponed and overdue?…
America is the land of the free but lately it doesn’t seem like it. With all the police brutality and the rasict comments by the President of The United States and his followers. In a poem written by Langston Hughes called “ Let America be America Again” it talks about how America is not free for everyone. So Langston Hughes poem relates to modern America because people are still judged by skin color, social class and people would do anything for money. Today people are still doing what ever it takes to make money.…
The American Voice is the art and literature which help’s continue to evolve and shape America. There are hundreds of authors and artists who have contributed their own works and unique styles to the American Voice. Langston Hughes contributed to the American Voice by setting the precedent for African American civil rights works and helped launch the Harlem Renaissance into full effect. Throughout the history of the Untied States there have been events which shaped this country; for example, the Harlem Renaissance and the short era of the counterculture are two events which helped progress the differing arts that have been created.…
Hughes is very earnest in his poem. I feel this way because he is very serious throughout the entire poem and is showing his deep feelings of his opinions on America. I have also gotten the impression that Hughes is very optimistic in his poem. He says "I am the young man, full of strength and hope…" this is a direct statement saying he believes in positive outcomes and is hopeful. Another feeling I have while reading this poem is he is very serious. He is making it clear that his intention is not to be funny and that he wants his poem to be taken sincerly. I also believe that Hughes is being very nostalgic. He is missing what America once was and is yearning for the past. I believe this due to the fact that he uses the statement " Let America be America agin, let it be the dream it use to…
He begins the passage by pleading to let America go back to being how it was in the past. He wishes for America to be “the dream the dreamers dreamed— Let it be that great strong land of…
In the poem “Let America be America Again”, Hughes brings up the recurring theme of fighting for one’s belief throughout the text. The poem describes the flaws within America back in the time of segregation. “O, let my…
Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri on February 1, 1902 and died in New York City, New York on May 22, 1967. His father’s name was James Nathaniel and his mother’s name was Carrie Mercer Langston Hughes. His parents separated not to long after he was born. His father later moved to Cuba and later permanently lived in Mexico, where he lived the rest of his life working as an attorney and landowner. He eventually traveled to Mexico to visit his father who moved when his parents separated from each but luckily for Langston, within a few years of his visit to Mexico, he would find himself at the center of a cultural flowering in New York City's historically black neighborhood that is famously known as Harlem. Hughes's poetry…
The dream that was never born, the promise of hope that was never promised, the right to be treated equal that was never given. Langston Hughes expresses his discomfort with the American ideals in his poem Let America Be America Again. The author details the aspects of a life that American is supposed to represent, the right of liberty and opportunity, yet Hughes lets its discomfort be known; The discomfort of a lie, a lie that promises equality for everyone, and the right to be part of the land of liberty an opportunity. The truth that America requires an established wealth to participate in its dream.…

Many leaders in today’s society possess characteristics that determine how they are either chosen or self-made. These characteristics could range from being a charismatic, transformational, motivational, or influential leader. Each has its own meaning, but it is possible for leaders to possess more than one characteristic. Being a charismatic leader consists of having a charming and colorful personality. As the text reads, “In the study of leadership, charisma is a special quality of leaders whose purposes, powers, and extraordinary determination differentiate them from others."…
A key element in the life of any individual is to be able to reproduce. Nonhuman primates number only 250 species but display great diversity in grouping patterns. We call some of these types of groupings a one male polygyny or monogamy. However, the main focus today is that these primates have evolved different strategies, behavioral and ecological, to cop with the need to balance limited food supplies while avoiding predators with intensions of mating and or harming their offspring. It has been assumed that in order for male primates to reach mating success, they must have to take on the task of always being present to the female and her offspring’s. I believe that I will argue that monogamy and one male polygyny are different yet both useful mating strategies. Then I will conclude that both mating systems have their own way of living, with special roles and circumstances despite the fact that they are both unique. The goal of my research begins by clarifying the different types of mating systems like monogamy and polygyny and then by looking into the intriguing issue of how primates choose their mates.…
The Key to the American Dream The American dream is the idea that a better life can be achieved for oneself through hard work and a vision for what you want. Everyone is free to do as they wish and has an equal chance of achieving their dream. For decades, people from all around the world have come to this land of opportunity to pursue their dreams and ambitions. Even people who grew up with the amenities America has to offer have created their own fantasies of what they want their futures to become.…
One of the main reason I agreed with Hughes was mainly for his views on culture. I would have to say that it is a big part of our identity and we must honor it to be who we truly are. He brought light to the topic of racism that most would just look away at given his era. Another aspect you would be able to view this from would have to be how empowering many of his words came across as. The essay gave off a feeling of empowerment somewhat like to reach your full potential you must acknowledge this aspect of yourself. That was mainly the reason why I felt more pulled to Hughes…
The emergence of short stories in the 19th century was due to the absence of avant-garde short story writers and historical events that postponed this movement. In the 1700s, novels were very popular and many people did not grasp the concept of the short story yet. Many writers who would go on to perfect the short stories were either very young or had not been born yet like Jorges Borges, Faulkner, and Neale Zora Hurston. The most prominent author who began to craft the schematics of short stories was Edgar Allen Poe. Poe`s detail to the art of short story writing has given him the title of the greatest innovator. His biography explains that his legacy is still felt today because “Poe`s poetry and short fiction have influenced writers diverse…
