The primary recreational opportunity in the planned project area is Keystone State Park which was created by the steel mills of Pittsburgh. The plus side to this was that you could really see the slow shipping away of rock from the waterfall from the down cutting. In figure 10 you will see the falls chiseled surface and the large amount of rock and other run off below it. Figure 10: Hayden Run Falls in late fall/early winter. Appearance of down cutting.…
In recent years, we have seen the ecosystem flourish due to a successful reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone National Park. We have seen a steady decrease in elk population, which in turn helped create a successful trophic cascade. Looking at graphs we can see that the wolf reintroduction has done its job, and we see a more than 50% decrease in population of elk. But what could happen if the wolf population doubled. We could see a total extermination of elk from Yellowstone and a decrease in visitors to Yellowstone, but in turn we could see in increase in the population of wolves, water animals, birds, and bears.…
In this essay you will learn about a park that is located in New Braunfels, TX. This park is the home of the largest springs in Texas. The Comal Springs has seven major springs and dozens of smaller ones that occur over a distance of 4,300 feet. The Springs and the Comal River are home to a federally endangered species named Fountain Darter. Though there are other rivers and springs in New Braunfels, the Comal Springs flows through the popular Landa Park which is home to wildlife and a great place to enjoy a nice day.…
I invite you to explore Black Canyon on the western slope of the White Mountains, about 20 minutes east of Bishop, California. This obscure canyon is a highly colorful, deep slash in the earth that keeps its many charms secret to all but a handful of Eastern Sierra visitors. It is an easily accessible location that does not involve a scary, butt-clenching drive on the brink of a thousand-foot drop into the abyss.…

America could possibly not be what it is today without the help of Sacagawea. Sacagawea was first known at birth as Boinaiv, which means " Grass Maiden;" she was part of the Shoshone tribe. She was born at about 1790 and she was from the area in which is now today Idaho. At the age of twelve she was camped near the Missouri River in Montana. They were encroached upon by warriors from the Hidatsa. There were four men, fourwomen, and many boys killed that day. That day Boinaiv and many other girls and boys were taken back to the Hidatsa village and were kept as prisoners. When Boinaiv arrived at the village she was renamed Sacagawea, which means "Bird Woman." At the Hidatsa village Sacagawea was enslaved until about 1800-1805. She was then either bought or won by a man by the name of Toussaint Charbonneau. At this same time, president Jerfferson and the U.S. Congress…
The purpose of a monument is to commemorate a significant historical person or event that took place. One example of a monument is the Washington State Monument. This Monument was built to acknowledge and commemorate George Washington in his efforts as being once commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and the first American president. Not all, but in some cases monuments do have the ability to bring people together. The Washington Monument stands more as a symbol of the U.S., but it can still have the power to bring people together. One example I can think of this monument bringing us together is showing the unity of our country. Most visitors seem to appreciate the Washington Monument for its size and meaning. I personally would show great…
As the Memorial Park's website puts it, "You can dive into history" when you "visit the Mighty A". The USS Alabama Battleship was an instrumental vessel during World War II and eventually was parked on the Gulf Coast of Mobile Alabama. The park surrounding the ship includes memorials and recreational picnic areas so visitors can learn history and enjoy being outside. It's also an easy stop for travelers taking interstate 10. Just across the Mobile River from the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park is the Oakleigh House Museum where you can visit a preserved mansion that once belonged to an area cotton broker. This historic area will give you a glimpse of the old South while you meet locals who've preserved a tradition of Southern Hospitality.…
My fondest of a Disney park was a 2005 trip to Disneyworld with my wife and young daughter. During our stay we visited the parts of the park my daughter prefered at the time, which was mainly princesses and fairy tales. One of her favorite rides in the park was called “it’s a small world”, which is a boat ride consisting of models of little islands, boats, and little figures. She also loved seeing all the princesses and visiting them. Personally, I like all of the roller coasters and thrill. Overall we had an amazing stay and a pleasant experience.…
