Letter To Lenka
Dear Lenka,
First of all, I want to say I really liked your post. I have to admit that your point about not chewing a gum when giving a presentation surprised me as I have thought it is commonplace. But you made me think about this problem and I couldn’t agree more with you as I realized that even some of my classmates are chewing a gum when speaking in front of the class. How horrible habit!

I have read all the post and felt that everyone explained their thoughts extremely well. I thought I would breeze through this class based on my background, however I learned more than I expected. I had many discussions since the start of class, which I have come to look forward to. I hope that our discussions helped everyone in this class understand this subject a little better. I look forward to having classes in the future with you all.…

This e-mail is a synopsis of the talk that Rosa Berroa and Charles Brown had on Wednesday October 7th. In which various concerning issues were made brought to light namely the amount of courtesy letters we have received over the years. The reason we are sending this is to recap the discussion and to clarify what we feel has transpired over time. As it seems us, one or more HOA members have taken a special 'liking' to our family over the past few years that we have been here. My family and I feel bombard with various courtesy letters that we have accumulated over the span of 3 years, and some of those courtesy letters are for impending violations, in where we are being informed about things we can and can not do, and that we had to fix before we received a fine if it continued, but yet individuals throughout the complex are also guilty of the same thing. The only exception is, that they are still allowed, or continue doing the same thing we get courtesy letters for.…

Thanks for the response. Yes, Philemon is a hard book to read. When I look at slavery in the New Testament (NT) and that of American slavery, NT slavery was a class system. Slaves in the NT were treated with decency. Smith states, “Harrill argues that Onesimus was an apprenticed slave. He identifies Paul's letter to Philemon as a "letter of recommendation" wherein Paul recommends Onesimus as an apprentice in gospel ministry.” Slaves in NT time were gathered as spoil after winning a victory or battle. Wallace shows us, “Roman slaves were either taken as the spoils of war or were such because they sold themselves into slavery (known as "bond-servant"). They were often well-educated.”…

Dr. King Jr. wrote the “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” after an unfair offer was made by eight white clergymen. Their claims were to be that no Negro “outsider” should be allowed to establish or lead any protest and should leave them to their local neighborhoods. I feel like he referenced these sources because they are well known by the people that would be reading this letter and it will make it easier for his readers to connect to what he is saying. Also all of these sources all talk about human equality in some way. The Gettysburg Address was a speech by Abraham Lincoln where he talks about bringing true equality to all citizens of the US and this speech was that in common with Dr. King’s letter. The Declaration of Independence of course is what this country was founded by. The very important line in it is the line that all “men are created equal” which is what Dr.King is talking about in his letter. Lastly the Bible was referenced because it is an religious book that well known in this country which talks about treating people right and equally just like Martin’s letter. These sources make his letter more powerful because these are major a document, moment, and book in our history that will bring up many different emotions in his readers. Also it will make people think about what this country was originally founded of all and how it is not living up to those ideals. That is why I think he uses them as sources in his letter.…

Dear Diary, I’m getting lonely without a normal buddie. I’m stuck with this retard Lennie, and just want someone to hang with that I don’t have to watch over like a kid. It would be great to have someone that would go to the cat house and get drinks with me once a month. But then on the other hand I have Lennie. I can’t just leave him, he can’t survive on his own. If he doesn't starve to death he will either be locked up somewhere or eaten alive by some animal. Its too much pressure for me. I wish I hadn't taken responsibility for this guy. Letter To Mrs. Lyman

Recently, some disturbing information was brought to my attention about one of Lyman Highschool's staff members. While in one of the restrooms I oveheard a convorsation about one of the theachers here at Lyman: Mrs. Neris. The other students were talking about a transgender student (who I personally do not know) and one of the mentioned that Mrs. Neris had given that student a referal for using the boy's restroom. (the student is originally female.) I was absolutely shocked, disgusted, and appalled. I felt so bad for that student. I can't imagine how embarassing and belittling that could feel. I know that a main goal of lyman higschool is to create a safe and comfortable learning environment where students can feel accepted…

As it stands right now, I am faced with a dilemma based on the methods in which I have taught in the past, and the new methods in which I feel are more suited for todays learning environment. Our social and educational community is divided on whether traditional or more modern methods of teaching are more successful. In my opinion, every method in teaching is the same. They deliver a message to the students and are generally retained and modified for their use. With this being said, there are obviously pros and cons to either approach to instruction.…

Sometimes things happen, and there isn’t always something that we can do to change it. Someone’s death will always be something to mourn about, but it also allows us to celebrate their life and bring everyone together. Lennie’s death is most definitely a reason to bring us together, and even more of a reason to talk about and cherish.…

My fellow student Chris gave a well-organized and coherently structured speech that followed the guidelines imparted to us in our textbooks. The use of vivid connectives and transitional sentences enabled his speech to flow rather smoothly. Overall he was very successful in conveying his message on smartphones to the audience. Like many of my other classmates, the only problems I picked up on were not in content of the oratory but in rapidity and articulacy – two things than can be attributed to presentation-day jitters.…

I'm sitting here, staring at the sun shining through the blinds here in my study. It's 7 A.M. and James is still lying in bed. So, I have this time to finally write to you, my dear friend. My heart is growing heavy as I ponder all of the political issues that are among us. One issue that was very pressing on my heart earlier in the year, was when we were at heads whether to go with the Virginia Plan or the New Jersey Plan. I’m not sure where you stand, but I’m in complete favor of the New Jersey Plan. The strongest reason I’m in support of this plan is because I fear the national government having too much control. Having the states remain the most powerful government will lead to a stronger United States. I can’t say that I’m completely unappeased to the Great Compromise. I actually feel like it was the best way we could handle two strongly apposed sides.…

The prison system is just as corrupt as the prisoners inside them. We live in a world where it is deemed acceptable to punish a criminal by taking away their humanity, and only release them when they find it themselves. It is apparent that the methods of handling prisoners and their sentences is costly and not effective. The recidivism rate in the United States prison and detention facilities are incredibly high, much higher than their Scandinavian counterpart. Recidivism “refers to a person's relapse into criminal behavior, often after the person receives sanctions or undergoes intervention for a previous crime.” (National Institute of Justice) According to the National Institute of Justice, “within three years of release, about two-thirds of released prisoners were rearrested; and within five years of release, about three-quarters of released prisoners were rearrested.” (National Institute of Justice) Unfortunately the statistics are only the tip of the iceberg in the severely flawed and failing prison. We must reform the flawed prison system, only than can we correct the criminal way of life.…
