I make them sound honorable, calling them “humble,” “gracious,” and “grateful.” I try to characterize them as the underdogs right before they win. Finally, since it would be incredibly honorable to die fighting for your country, right beside your ruler, I conclude the letter by saying that I fight beside them. Unlike the letter to the people, in the letter to the army, I make the audience feel strong and mighty, not like underdogs. Once again, I make the Chrats sound inferior and evil, so that the army will feel like it’s their duty to stop. I also use repetition to try to excite the audience. I then offered insightful and convenient information, which would ensure that the army would conquer the Chrats’ farmland, making me the all-powerful sweet potato emperor. Lastly, since he is part of my family, I use a more colloquial tone and familiar voice in the letter to my Uncle, the owner of the sweet potato processing factory. The majority of the letter composed of small talk, making me sound friendly and kind. As opposed to a proclamation letter, like the previous letter, this one was written more conversationally.
