Letters To America Monologue
I’m writing this letter to you to inform and update you on my life. However I first wanted to address what happened in Kabul. I'm sorry Hassan. I'm so sorry for everything. However I don't want to dwell on that too much, I just pray that you'll forgive me for all the wrong doing I have done. I know it won't help much, because you're so pure and kind, but Kamal was raped, and he died on the way out of Kabul. On to a more positive subject, life in America has been such an adjustment for Baba, but it has truly been amazing. I went to the ocean and it was even more marvelous than in the movies, oh how I wished you were with me. The ocean is so blue and beautiful, I think I might've even seen a whale. I completed high school and I'm now enrolled in college for creative writing. …show more content…
Baba wasn't too thrilled about it but he's accepted it. Im hoping one day I’ll get discovered so I don't have to do the hard labor like Baba. It is so nice in America, it is bigger than you could ever imagine, I could literally drive for hours and hours upon end. The best part, I met the most wonderful girl. Her name is Soraya Taheri, shes General Taheri's daughter. I haven't actually talked to her, but man Hassan, I got a feeling. She distracts me even in my classes, I'm going to make her my wife on day. Hassan I hope you'll get to meet her. America is stunning but I miss Kabul. I miss reading to you. I miss kite running. I miss throwing stones at the neighbor's dogs. I wish you'd come to America and see and experience everything for

Boom! The sound snaps us all to life, ensnaring our senses and shaking every fiber of our beings. In less than ten seconds we're all on our feet and almost in complete chaos. I snatch up my gun and the first few of us rush out of the barracks to find the colonel for orders. Boom! This time the blast is right behind us and our barracks bursts into a roaring wall of flames. The blast sends us falling face first to the ground. All of our fellow soldiers, our friends, were still inside and now the building is crumbling in a massive inferno. "We have to move!" Chris says, leaping to his feet, and the three of us run through camp and locate the colonel. "Grab a gun and form up on the coast line. We don't need to fight on two fronts." He orders us.…

My name is Jean-Louise Finch, daughter of Atticus, some people call me Scout. We are all here today to remember Atticus. He was the type of person who always said what he thought, no matter what the subject was over. When Jem and I got our first guns, he said “Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit’em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”…

I have been waiting for this day to come. The day Tom Robinson is moved to Maycomb County Jail. I am truly terrified for Atticus nonetheless. Atticus is not a hostile person and I understand he is planning to guard the jail. I pray to the Lord nothing ensues. Oh no! This can’t be happening! The children are on their way to town. I can only assume they are following Atticus. Nothing good can come of this. I have been up all night and at last I see Atticus and the children walking home, unharmed. What a relief!…

It happened a long time ago… I was here in Sydney, Australia with my first real job; 15 years have passed since then... It stayed in my mind for a long time, that one cold, grey and gloomy winter’s day outside that block of flats. It mustn't have been before 3 o’clock. It makes it hard now to forget what happened to the Papadopoulos family; Where did they go?…

Throughout the book The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien and the documentary “Dear America: Letters Home to Vietnam” the central feelings of fear and trepidation were prominent. As a reader, or viewer, I was able to take the feelings of the soldiers during the Vietnam War and translate it in a way to relate it to my own life.…

I can’t believe that Amir graduated high school and is now going to junior college. He thinks that he will be “discovered” and will make a living off of stories that he makes up. I do not understand how he thinks that he will make money off of words on paper. I wish you were here so he could see that you support him through his decisions, especially the ones I am not as passionate about as he is. Amir talks about how he wishes you could come to America because we both miss you and it would make all of our lives better.…

Every day I try to instil good values and a sense of moral propriety in my children. I make it my duty to aide them towards making righteous decisions and treating others as they wish to be treated. I know they torment Arthur Radley on their way to school; I’m sure now they realize they were wrong in doing so. I do not believe Arthur Radley is simple-minded; he is the way he is because of people like his father, people like Bob Ewell. He is only seeking love and attention by befriending Scout and Jem, I think that will do them some good after everything they’ve been through, and they deserve each other. I’m glad they’re friends now, I can only teach them so much and eventually they’ll get tired of listening to me and will need someone else to gain advice from, I just hope that day doesn’t come soon.…

The way Hassan is taunted for this, when two soldiers make remarks such as “What a tight little sugary cunt she had!” which would have upset Hassan quite a lot, especially with the vulgar language as he is only a boy at this point. The fact that Baba and Amir left the country for America proves that life in Afghanistan under the Taliban rule is not desirable or fulfilling, Baba “loved” the idea of America; the fact that it was free and people were not getting shot in the streets for having an opinion – in America, people had freedom of speech, which is very desirable. This relates to the American Dream – Baba believes that he can get a better life for himself and his son in…

Things are finally starting to settle down, except for Baba. He is still trying, unsuccessfully, to adjust to life here in America. I can’t even get him to enroll in ESL to learn English. He has even come up with a plan to make more money. He goes to garage sales and buys things for cheap then sells them at the flea market. The flea market is just like back in Afghan, people gossiping, drinking tea, and afghan music playing. Baba is always meeting new friends and even some old ones. I even met a girl there, her name was Soraya and she looked like a princess.…

The wind was harsh in Maycomb that night, the moon a meer pearl in a black sky. I sat in the chair in my study, cringing from the moonlight emanating from the large window, as if it, too, would burn my skin. I tapped my pen, thinking about the Finch children. Why was I so intrigued with them, with who they were? Maybe it was because I felt as if they were like me. Their father, being so brave as to defy the societal norms, must have raised them like him; to respect all people, no matter the color of their skin. They were so young, so innocent, and I did not wish to see them harmed or looked down upon. They looked up to me, that I knew; why, I didn’t. I did not want them to end up like me; a coward that hid from what he was afraid of. I wanted them to do something about it. I was hopeful that they would.…
