Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that causes the insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas to be destroyed, preventing the body from being able to produce enough insulin to adequately regulate blood glucose levels. Type 1 diabetes may sometimes be referred to as juvenile diabetes, because it is commonly diagnosed in children and the condition can develop at any age. Insulin dependent diabetes is another term used to describe type 1 diabetes. Since type 1 diabetes causes the loss of insulin production, it therefore requires regular insulin administration.…

It is rather unusual that I chose a dangerous field, which is being in the Navy, instead of being the stereotypical Asian doctor despite having a good family. My father has always told me these words, “ Whatever you choose, I will support you. Unless it’s drugs or anything like that, I will kick your ass. I rather see you fail trying to be successful than not try without experiencing failure”. Those words have pierced deep into my mind since I knew the harsh struggles my family endured just to give me a good life they never experienced when they were young. My father’s childhood life was robbed by the Communist in Vietnam, he was borderline close to being a Communist soldier, so he had to escape on a boat to the U.S. There…
