John Parker was telling the truth. I believe that John is telling the truth because he wasn’t in the British Army, but he was the Commander of the Militia in Lexington. He states in his Affidavit, “ I immediately ordered our Militia to disperse, and not to fire...”, which often many would believe a Commander. They were not to fire unless they were fired upon, but as it states in his Affidavit, they were fired upon, “ Immediately said Troops made their appearance and rushed furiously, fired upon, and killed eight of our Party ..”, which clearly states that the British were the ones who fired first.
