For an example,an Oklahoma Republican representative in February introduced bill HJR 1023. This bill claims that, “It would allow a religious organization, authorized official, private business or individual to refuse to solemnize or recognize any marriage or provide goods or services related to the marriage that violate a sincerely held religious belief’ (John Paul Jordon). It continues, stating that those who refuse services or neglect to recognize any marriage would not be considered discriminatory and face no consequences. This bill overall allows marriage services to refuse marrying an LGBT couples and denial of married LGBT couples of services such as hospitals, health care facility, hospice, elder care facility or crisis pregnancy center, and associated counseling. In some cases, many partners can not make decision if their partner is sick and unable to. Many of these services such as health-care, should be basic human right and provides more examples of lawmakers creating inequalities for LGBT couples. It is injustice to take and remove such basic rights of a person, no one should be discriminated against just because of a religious belief. To be brief, modern society has made several steps to achieve equality, but there are still important issues that still need to be addressed. Lawmakers, senators, and congressmen have made bills that consistently undermine the rights of the people they are sworn to protect. A politician's job is not to further their “religious” propaganda, but to encourage open discourse amongst the American people. The continuation of the creation of these discriminatory bills shows the amount of work that is still to be done and the in what direction to focus on in achieving true equality.
