The Libertarian Party is America’s third largest party and fastest growing political party. The party was created in December of 1971 by people who realized politicians weren’t living up to our founding father’s concept of liberty and freedom for Americans. The Libertarian Party beliefs are very basic: world peace, harmony, opportunity, and abundance for all individuals. Libertarians are also practical by knowing the world isn’t perfect but are aiming for ways to make it better. The party’s mission statement is to “seek a world of liberty; a world in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives and no one is forced to sacrifice his or her
values for the benefit of others.” Liberty is very important to the party as well as the right to life. The protection of individuals’ rights is the only proper purpose of the government in a Libertarians eyes. They also believe that individual rights should be respected and only through freedom and peace prosperity can be realized. Libertarians are a peaceful party. They welcome diversity for people to follow their own dreams in their own way without the influence and power of the government. They support freedom of expression and oppose government censorship when it comes to religion, communication and technology. They also want all the members of society to have an abundance of opportunities to achieve economic success. They support a clean environment and sensible use of our natural resources. When it comes to finances and spending the Libertarian party believes people should be entitled to keep the fruits of their hard work. They want to repeal income taxes and disband all federal programs that aren’t required under the U.S. Constitution. Libertarians also want a free market when it comes to education, banking and healthcare. I think people would choose this party if equality and freedom is high in their value system. You would choose this party if you believe the government should serve and not control. Libertarians are about spreading the love and wanting all people to prosper. If you want to empower citizens and believe you should be free to control your own life, this is the party for you. Caring about humanity, opportunity and world peace is another reason why someone would choose to be Libertarian. If you have a logically approach towards politics and are tolerant of all people the Libertarian party might be a good fit for you.
