Liberty University (L.U.) Liberty University started out by a preacher, Dr.Jerry Falwell, challenging his congregation to establish a Christian college in Lynchburg, Virginia. That challenge became Lynchburg Baptist College. In 1975, Lynchburg Baptist College changed to Liberty Baptist College. In 1980, the college became fully accredited with the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Liberty is the seventh largest university and the world’s largest Christian school. It is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The mission statement of the college is “God, the infinite source of all things, has shown us truth through scripture, nature, history, and above all in Christ.” (Liberty University) To apply to L.U. one has to have an academic GPA of 2.5, application essay, rigor of secondary school record, standardized test results, there is no minimum SAT or ACT score but they still want to see them. If a student is put on academic warning it is because he/she is failing to maintain the minimum GPA of 2.5. In order for a student to regain good academic support they must have 13 semester-hours and are required to take CLST 101, 102, 103, or 105. When on academic warning students are not allowed to participate on any team from the university. (Liberty Universty) Campus recreation consists of archery, beach volleyball, disc golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, volleyball, wrestling, and ultimate Frisbee. Some social activites consists of cheerleading, baseball, basketball, field hockey, football, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and track/cross country. The school’s mascot is the Flames and they are a member of the NCAA. The levels of the sports are club, intercollegiate, NCAA Division 1, NCAA Division 1AA, and Scholarships.
