1.Introduction
Debre Markos University was established in 2005/2006 G.C. Soon after its establishment, the
President and Academic Vice President were assigned to organize the University. Following this,
53 academic and 15 support staffs were employed. The University started its function admitting the first batch of 760 students in the then Education Faculty (now reorganized as Social Sciences and Humanities and Natural and Computational Sciences Colleges) in February 2007.
The University runs undergraduate program in both regular and continuing education divisions.
Students joining the regular program are assigned by the Ministry of Education from all corners of the country after they have successfully accomplished the preparatory school program.
Continuing education program students, on the other hand, are selected by the university.
In 2012 academic year, the University runs undergraduate programs in 25 disciplines in six colleges and one school; namely, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, College of
Business & Economics, College of Agriculture & Natural Resources, College of Natural and
Computational Sciences, College of Technology, College of Health Sciences and School of Law.
