In 1839 as an African American you began a slave and either bought your way out or stayed on the same path as the millions before you. Montag, a prisoner to the shackles of society; begins his journey as a fireman. He stood there with a “Smile still gripped by his face muscles, in the dark”(Bradbury, 2) he breathed in the Kerosene. Montag loved burning with a passion, it was all he desired; “It was a pleasure to burn”(Bradbury, 1) people’s books because it was “the right thing to do”. Who ever said that it was correct to burn books. It is never established who, but we know why ‘they’ do it. All that it is know is Montag is a Fireman who works for a hierarchy agenda and not his own.To control the masses from ever thinking; to…

In Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury uses the life of a Guy named Montag, a fireman in a near future dystopia, to make an argument against mindless blissful ignorance. In Bradbury’s world, the firemen that Montag is a part of create fires to burn books instead of putting out fires. By burning books, the firemen eliminate anything that might make people want to be different or start any type of argument with anyone in the community. But this leads into people wanting to read the books so they keep them, like Montag but they end up being caught with the books. If you end up being caught you could possibly get killed or go to jail, but some people like Montag decide to run away from the community so they don’t get killed nor arrested.…

In this era of time Montag is known as a firemen but not the one most people would think of. Instead of putting out fires the firemen are there to start them. The firemen’s main job is to burn all books. Montag is at first one of the many people who are sucked into a world they don’t understand but never ask questions to clear things up. Although Montag undertakes in a callous, apathetic, and weak- minded stage at first, he starts to see the truth behind his world and pushed to recognize the real problems in his world.…

Throughout his dialect, Beatty uses irony and many other things to sort of captivate and almost trick Montag into thinking that burning books was a good thing. Beatty, at one point in his life had loved books, but when they were banned, he changed his happiness for society. “'We stand against the small tide of those who want to make everyone unhappy with conflicting theory and thought,” (Bradbury 59) Beatty states that being a fireman is an important job and going against his duty would just be wrong. Montag learns from Beatty that you can’t let society control your happiness and you should fight for the things you are entitled too. Montag knew he must make himself…

I think that these events foreshadowed Okonkwo’s and the Ibo tribe’s demise because every single one of the events affected Okonkwo negatively and led to some of change in his life. It starts with Okonkwo’s father being a bum in the tribe and neglecting his responsibility to his family. His death was also degrading because his body was thrown in the forbidden forest and Okonkwo always worked towards not becoming someone like him. However, at the end Okonkwo’s “burial” is the same and he becomes the failure he tried to avoid. He considered himself a failure because he was unable to rid the tribe of the colonists because he could see that the culture was diminishing but he failed to bring the tribe to fight after his exile. He was exiled because he killed a boy at the wedding which he was invited to after he killed Ikemefuna so that he could clear his mind with a distraction. Overall, every event led to something which foreshadowed Okonkwo’s demise as well as the tribe’s.…

In the beginning of the novel, Montag is introduced to us as a man who goes about his business daily, working as a fireman for a living. With his job comes the responsibility to live by the law, and Montag does that diligently. He puts no thought into the effect his actions may be having on the people of his society, and the comprehensive knowledge he is destroying by burning books. Montag “wanted above all, like the old joke, to shove a marshmallow on a stick in the furnace, while the flapping pigeon-winged books died on the porch and lawn of the house. While the…

After a troubled night's sleep that results in him absenting himself from work, Montag is visited by his captain who, while reminding him that books are dangerous, implies that any fireman who finds himself curious about what books are actually like can have one for as long as twenty four hours, but it must eventually be burned. Meanwhile, Montag's wife discovers the concealed book, which narration reveals is a Bible. Montag later confesses that he has a concealed collection of books, eventually convincing his wife (who is worried that their home will be destroyed if anyone finds out what they've got) to read with him. She is unable, or unwilling, to get any meaning out of the books, eventually returning her attention to the house's expensive,…
