In many societies, technology has helped cultivate more advanced economies (including today's global economy) and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Being able to do anything with a click, being able to reach anywhere and being able to do stuff that’s beyond our imagination is what technology has to offer us. One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men but no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man. The remaining question becomes, ‘Do I fear less because I know more?’ Or ‘Do I fear more because I know more?’ From my point of view, we should control ourselves from misusing technology and try not to destroy mother earth and ourselves in the process of making the world a better place to live in with technology.

The main argument this book explores is not between humanists and scientists, but between technology and everybody else. Most people believe that technology is a friend. It is a friend that asks for trust and obedience, which most give because its gifts are bountiful. The dark side it that it creates a culture without moral foundation, undermines certain mental processes and social relations that make human life worth living. Technology is both a friend and enemy. Time was running out. Stakes were high. It was supposed to be a particular day for everyone including Miranda, a typical teenage girl. As usual, she went to school, then went home with the knowledge that an asteroid was to hit the moon later in the day. At first, nothing seemed to have happen until a noise almost like a sonic boom erupted from the sky. The moon appeared closer than ever in an eerie, unnatural sort of way. Almost suddenly, Earth was hit with tornadoes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. Out of the many people who witnessed this event, Miranda stayed strong and fought her way through the epidemic, even through the roughest of times.…

What would I do? This is what I kept asking myself as I was reading “Life as We Knew It” by Susan Beth Pfeffer. The book follows Miranda and her family through their day-to-day struggles to survive the aftermath of a life-changing event. Astronomers miscalculate the density an asteroid that hits the moon, and it pushes the moon closer to Earth. The gravitational pull results in natural disasters that happen all over the world, not to mention grocery stores running out of food and gas going well over $10 a gallon. Although there is not a lot of action in the book, it is still compelling to read.…

In this generation, technology and society go hand and hand. Technology and human life cannot be separated in the perspective of various people. Society has grown to have a co-dependence on technology. As stated by Fareed ZakAria in his article “How to Restore the American dream”, “technology is not only affecting society, but its creating a better reality. Everything is able to be achieved through ease” (Zakaria 460). In a broader view, we depend on technology for everything. Each individual in the world today uses this new entity in their daily lives. The use has become too great, that most of the time it’s viewed as a habit. The demand for technology keeps on increasing everyday as we use technology to travel, to communicate, to learn, and to handling business but most importantly, to live in peace and comfort. In the article, “Technology & Society: A Canadian Perspective”, the authors said the following about technology. “Technology and Society, we are told exist in a dynamic reciprocal relationship; they act on, and react to, one another” (Goyder and Aant). Without technology society is able to…

The reasons for them are necessary to keep us safe as we travel to and from. However, there is one rule that makes no sense, NO CELL PHONES. In the building this is a more reasonable rule. They do not want us to have our cell phones because of cheating and the fact that we might not pay attention. The prohibition of them in the building is the best way, seen by teachers and administration to keep bad things from happening. On the bus, this is a different story.…
