As people live their lives, they usually and often experience various life events that influence their lives. My event began years before the actual event occurred. My stepson had been diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder when he was seventeen years old. He was also exhibiting the signs of alcoholism, which ran in the family. His biological father had died from cirrhosis of the liver at the age of thirty seven years old. His mother and I were both recovering addicts, and argued constantly over whether we should use tough love (me) or enable him (her). I was just his stepfather; she was his mother so I would always follow her lead eventually. Over the next thirteen years he abused alcohol and would steal from us or his sisters to get his alcohol, or to drive our cars without permission. He ended up in prison numerous times for violating his probation, so much so he was on a first name basis with the correction officers at the county prison. The event happened on December fourteenth, 2005. I was awakened at five thirty A.M. by the warden of Lancaster County Prison, and notified that my son had committed suicide in his cell at four A.M. by hanging himself. I went into hysterics immediately and handed the phone to my wife who also lost it. I don’t remember much of that day except that it was our sons thirty first birthday, and that he surely wouldn’t have killed himself on this day, but he had.…

A big event that has changed my life was when my older brother moved away to go to the navy. This changed my life cause I did not know if I was ever going to see him again. When he told me he was leaving and not going to be back for awhile i thought he was leaving because of me, I was a little brat back then so yeah and at the age i was i thought everything was my fault. The day my brother left was probably the saddest thing to ever happen because me and him would always hang out and play video games or walk around town or do something fun. I remember when we dropped him off at the airport i was clinched on to his leg and i was refusing to let go because I didn’t want him to leave. Now that i look back on it i think one of the reasons why i didn’t want him to leave is because he was kinda like my best friend/ role model so yeah and well he is my older brother and I didn’t want anything to happen to him.…
Throughout the past year I have endured several life changing occurances. One of my family members troubled through the treturous stages of cancer and unfortunately has passed at this time. If I have taken anything away from this, it is that family is the most important resource in a persons life. Without those people who tell you that you can, regardless of the circumstances, becoming succesful could be very challenging. After clearing my head, I was able to start thinking of a career choice that would make me enjoy going to work. I encountered an opening at a local CVS/Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and applied. After being hired, I immediately fell in love with the surroundings, the people, the patient interaction, and the knowledge…
Ever since I can remember I spent almost ever y day at my Grandparents house. They live right down the road from my family and me, and that is how they got the title “Grandma and Grandpa down the road”. They lived in a small house three bedrooms, one bathroom, and a small living room with a fire place that can worm the coldest heart. And in their back yard stood a shed filled with old farm equipment and stray cats with their kittens that I would try to catch every day. They are now both 78 years old and sadly not very healthy. My grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer in October, and it changed my grandpa’s life, my family’s life, and my life.…
My three life events are, my godmother passed away, I've broken my wrists, and I started working with my dad. These experiences are good and bad. When my godmother passed away , that was a sad day to remember. Also the day that I broken my wrists, It was painful but good. And working with my dad was a really good experience. In life experience can be good and bad but there is always a way to get in one and to get out of one.…
In this we are asked to focus on events and how they influence the way we develop. We have also been asked to write about two predictable and two unpredictable life events.…
Events in life are what make us who we are in this present moment. Our temper and personality are mostly based on all of our life experiences, some of them stronger than the others at the point they can actually make some radical changes in each and every one of our lives. A personal life changing event of mine happened around five years ago. I had a dog and he died in a terrible accident. Because of this, I learned that life can be very short and fragile and that it is important to appreciate it and to make the most we can out of our lives while we have it.…
My mom has two sisters that are tremendously active in our lives. My house became research central as the entire family researched hospitals, doctors, cancer, and homeopathic remedies. We did everything and anything to help with the fight against cancer. This experience, although difficult, set an example for me and put into reality what I had been taught and lectured most of my life. I come from an immigrant family on both sides, my mother’s family immigrated from Ecuador and my dad’s from Ireland. For as long as I can remember my Abuelito, my Ecuadorian grandfather, always lectured his grandchildren on working hard, never giving up, and always having a positive attitude. When cancer hit our family, I found myself living the principles they taught us. We researched and continued to be positive. We worked hard helping each other and taking more responsibility. The attitude amongst us was to do everything in our power to have the most positive outcome. My mom had moments of weakness, but her attitude and outlook were always positive. This helped me mirror her and allowed me to step up and contribute to my family. I am a stronger, better…
There have been many events that have made impacts in my life, but the birth of my younger brother, Jonathan, was the most life changing. My family rushed to the hospital when my mother knew she was about to have my little brother. We waited eagerly in the hospital picturing what he would look like. Once we got news that the delivery was safe and we could go into the room to see my mom and newborn brother, my smile grew from cheek to cheek. I knew, at that moment, that my life would never be the same.…
It was July 12, 2005 when I heard the news that has forever changed my life. I was going to the Bowie City gymnasium as I did almost every day to play basketball, and start some pick-up games. When I arrived, started looking for my usual squad. I had my best friend Desmond Bowden playing the point, my friend Leon Willis playing the 3 guard, my other friend Kevin Baker playing the power forward, my main man Jeff Willis playing the center, and I played the 2 guard. Together we were unstoppable; we owned the gym. If there ever was a high school dream team we were it. I couldn't find anyone. None of my teammates were there. I started thinking where could they be. Then I remembered that Desmond had gone to Rhode Island for a college visit. But he was supposed to be back home last night. Maybe he missed his plane, I thought, but where was everybody else. I called Leon at home but nobody picked up. If he wasn't home, he was at the gym; that's just how things were. I called my other teammates and I got the same response. Nobody was home. I started to get scared because we all practically lived at the gym, and lived to play basketball.…

My name is Melissa Losada. I was born in Michigan in the year 1995. I lived there with my mom until my younger sister Rebecca was born. Soon after we moved to West Virginia to be with my grandmother, it was 1996 I was two years old when I moved to the city of Beckley, West Virginia and that is the only place I have ever lived since. Beaver elementary is where I went to elementary school, I lived directly in front of the school so I was never really far from home. Back then my mom was our girl scout troop leader and we were the “Brownies” which was our group name. I enjoyed school as a kid.…
