According to the latest statistics the life expectancy in UK is 79.9 which is much better when compared to other nations(UK national statistics,2008).The government has introduced several policies to increase the quality of life of the people. In this assignment am going to have a brief look on the different health indicators in UK and the challenges faced by health care team in meeting those needs.

It would appear that obesity is a condition which people may associate with gluttoning, leading them to blame obese individuals for their state(Bray 1991). This attachment of responsibility may affect the nurses behaviour towards the patient with obesity.
Obese patients reported that the care givers are showing a discrimination on them. It is the responsibility of a nurse not to allow any kind of such attitudes in the ward and should ensure that the patient receives individual treatment.
It is a very clear fact that the education of the patient is one of the essential parts of caring. It helps the patients in prepare for the next procedures. “It is also identified that dealing with clients coping with obesity can be aided by a knowledge of psychology(ponto 1995)”. It is essential to check the eating and drinking patterns of an obese patient. Even if the patient is having a well balanced diet there is still chances for malnutrition due to the increased amount of fat in the tissues. Limiting the food amount immediately may cause depression and lethargy in patients which will adversely affect the recovery of the patient. Patients should be encouraged to have a well nutritional
