Life in Different Parts of the World
I believe living in America is a privilege. I think this because we are fortunate to live in a place where we have rights. Countries like Iran and Cuba have limited rights. In Iran, a women could be sentenced to death for being the victim of rape. Yes, the woman who was raped is the one thats punished. Thats not fair. In North Korea, citizens have next to no rights. Kim Jong-Il has had no positive impact on the country’s dire human rights record. More than 200,000 North Koreans, including children, are imprisoned in camps where many perish from forced labor, inadequate food, and abuse by guards. Arbitrary arrest, lack of due process, and torture are pervasive problems. There is no independent media, functioning civil society, or religious freedom. Government policies have continually subjected North Koreans to food shortages and famine. In America, we have many rights, including: Labor laws, Freedom of Press, Freedom of Speech, and the Freedom of Religion. To have all of these rights just because we are human is amazing.
Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens participate equally—either directly or indirectly through elected representatives—in the proposal, development, and creation of laws. It encompasses social, religious, cultural, ethnic and racial equality, justice, liberty and fraternity. Some countries are ruled by Dictators who only listens to himself.
