Life Is Fine By Langston Hughes Rhyme Scheme
In the Langston Hughes poem “Life is Fine” he talks about how there might be things that get in the way of your goal or dream but that you have to get through it. The poem’s structure, in my opinion is dramatic. In Life is Fine Hughes is expressing himself the only way black men could in 1949.

Hughes uses end rhyme in Life is Fine. The rhyme scheme is ABCB. An example is in stanza 1 “I went down to the river, I set down on the river bank, I tried to think but couldn’t, so I jumped in and sank”. Hughes also uses extended metaphor. His whole poem is one long metaphor for how life is hard for him and he’s gonna get through it. An example is in stanza 5, Hughes says “So since I’m still here living, I guess I’ll live on. I could’ve died for love-But

Purpose: In this lab, I will observe macroscopic changes that occur when mixing together certain chemicals and household cleaners. The mixing of the chemicals provided with each other and with acid/base indicators demonstrates how matter can change, and how chemistry can be seen with the naked eye. By mixing household cleaners with an acid/base indicator I hope to demonstrate how these changes can be related to everyday life.…

Whitman's and Hughes poems are in free verse and have no rhyme scheme. The reason behind this is that the free verse is emphasizing freedom and equality. Whitman is talking about how america has freedom and this is what lets everyone contribute to what makes america so great. While Hughes says the african americans currently are not free. America promosies all with freedom but because of the color of some people's skin they are denied that freedom. However he will go against the restraints and hopes soon all will have the freedom and the right to be an american. Another thing is that Whitman uses long lines but each talks about the simple job each person contributes to america. However hughes uses short lines and his story expresses a complex meaning. This shows that he changed Whitman's poem to express the idea that even if a man looks differnt, should he be denied the rights of others. The short lines are also better because of the fact they help to emphasize the importance of each word because there is only a few words he can use to emphasize the importance and the message of his poem. It emphasizes the importance a lot better than Whitman's because of the fact it is not sugarcoated. The sugarcoating on Whitman's makes it more happy connotation but harder to understand the message. This makes it easier to see Hughes ambition and hopes of being treated like an…

In the poem “Life is Fine”, Langston Hughes gives of a mood of depression and realization. Hughes uses the words hollered, cried, and died a lot throughout his poem which gives the sense that the person in the poem is lonely and looking for help. Two lines that could have shown that the person was depressed is “I thought about my baby/And thought I would jump down”. These show that the person could be depressed because although they think about their baby and how they have a loved one, they also consider jumping down. In the end the person realizes that “Life is Fine!” and worth living for which shows the mood of realization. The way that Hughes wrote this poem makes it sound as though it is a suicidal poem and in the end, they would chose to die rather than live, and he does a magnificent job in keeping the readers interest and belief that there would be a sad outcome when in the end he turns it around. This leaves the reader questioning what was going through the persons mind, or what made their life so terrible that made them want to leave. This conveys a very positive mood in the ending of the sadly began poem.…

The use of imagery is prevalent throughout this poem. Hughes begins the poem by asking, “What happens to a dream deferred?” (690). From there he uses vivid imagery in the form of similes to paint a picture of someone’s dream that is wasting away. The images he uses touch on all five senses: sight, touch, smell,…
