Life Of Pi Journey Essay
Our sole existence progresses with the barriers we encounter. An impending journey, grasping towards change and innovation can test our virtuous tenacity and knowledge in exchange for survival by a brief interruption. In the novel Life of Pi, Yann Martel presents this intriguing journey when protagonist Piscine Patel (Pi) is lost at sea alongside with a Bengal tiger ( Richard Parker) , after the family’s cargo ship sinks . Similarly, in the film Castaway, director Robert Zemeckis demonstrates this journey when lead, Chuck Noland wakes up on a deserted island after his plane crashes at sea. This is shown in Martel’s Life of Pi when Pi discovers, the vicious Bengali tiger below the tapestry on the lifeboat. Pi explains "I had fled the lifeboat to save my life,"(Martel 206) upon realizing the potential threat. Although the lifeboat was the sole mode that kept Pi alive from the initial shipwreck, he knew that Richard Parker on board was the immediate threat he must escape to assure his safety and survival. This is solely the reason why Pi uses tenacity and will to motivate himself into fleeing the boat.Furthermore, in the film Castaway, Zemeckis features Chuck demonstrating a similar mindset upon discovering he’s stranded alone on a deserted island. Chuck is seen scavenging through the remains of the crash, finding usable materials along with scouting materials in the wilderness, which he can use to construct a shelter and fire . By accepting his current situation, Chuck is able to act upon resolving most of his immediate threats to survival by constructing a shelter and starting a fire to withstand severe weather conditions and shield himself from any lurking wilderness predators. This is possible all because of his will to persevere through the physical threats. Evidently, both Chuck and Pi struggled to grasp their situation at first, but soon realize their priorities and act upon them.
