Life’s Inequities
As humans get older we begin to notice differences in our lives, differences like life styles, the way we live, were we live and how we live. The way society sees us, how others treat us, the rights we have, and the level of respect we get, are different for every one. All of these are noticed at a very young age, just as Marguerite did while she was growing up in Stamps. Many of those things can not be changed no matter how hard we try to escape it. As we get older we realize that the only way we can be happy in life is to learn to accept these inequalities of life. When looking for happiness we must accept that no one can change the past; you can not change who you are; you can only improve; and nothing in this world will last forever.
Who has ever done some thing they regret and want to go back in time and fix it. But one can not do so it is much easier to accept the fact that once it happens it is irreversible. The only thing one can do is accept it and focus on the future. I myself have contemplated how to fix something I have done in the past, but the conclusion is to accept it and make sure that I don’t commit the mistake again, and focus ahead. It makes no sense to live life with regrets and without making mistakes. If your life is immaculate there is no risk and the greatest pleasure in life is taking risks, taking chances, not knowing the outcome. So what happens, accept it and look forward. There is a reason why the past belongs behind.
The most somber emotion some one can feel is the loss of someone or something. Nothing in this universe lasts forever. From something as big as the sun to something as small your favorite pair of shoes. From something as indispensable like people you love to something as empty as your cell phone. Nothing in this world is everlasting no matter how well guarded, how healthy, how resilient. Not even thoughts or ideas, which are thought to be untouchable to external forces like time and age. We must accept this as fact.

In planning her Happiness Project, Rubin turned to the wisdom of the ages, scientific knowledge, and lessons from pop culture all aimed at creating happiness. She uses this book to set down her adventures and discoveries along the way. She learned a number of things, including that novelty and challenge are important sources of happiness, that while perhaps money can’t completely buy happiness it can help in its purchase when it is spent with fore thought, that ordering and organizing her external environment contributed to a sense of inner peace, that treating herself could make her feel worse, that venting negative emotions didn’t get rid of them, and that sometimes it was the smallest of changes that could make the largest differences in her world and her happiness.…

Novelist Ayn Rand, in her book Anthem, wrote, “My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose”. Although happiness may seem like a simple concept to many, sometimes we don’t recognize it but we always take different paths, face many obstacles, and spend most of our lives trying to achieve happiness. Depending on the circumstances, every person has their own definition of what it means to attain happiness, whether through wealth, success, health, love etc. Happiness is a notion that be developed by focusing on the smaller things in life which are not given a great deal of thought to, but still can heavily impact us. One of these smaller yet significant ideas in life is individualism. Today…

Everyone's goal in life is to be “happy”, they go out of their way to fulfill temporary pleasures. But what is very ironic is that striving for this possession filled happiness, many become sad, weary and give up on their dream of so called “happiness”. People seem to struggle most with finding and maintaining happiness in their lives, mostly because they do not understand what happiness is. They assume happiness is a concrete destination. Little do they realize that you can find happiness in what you already have, no matter the situation. Some think that the only way to be happy is to remove all things negative out of their life, but one should not let their happiness be controlled by something they themselves cannot control. When things do not go exactly as expected, that does not mean everything has gone wrong, or that the world has turned against you. Problems will always be present in life, so it is better to accept their presence, allowing you to accept your life as is, which…

Firstly, Harper Lee shows us that we should feel optimistic even in tragedy. As Miss Maudie says “Grieving, child? Why, I hated that old cow barn. Thought of settin’ fire to it a hundred times myself, except they’d lock me up.” (Lee, 75). Her house is nearly all she has and it is on fire. Instead of feeling grieve; she is happy about it because she has a chance to build a small new house. Most of the time, we would feel very depressed when we lose something that is precious to us. But, feeling depressed will not going to take us anywhere. What we should do is to be optimistic because we already lose something very precious; we do not want to lose our smile also. Try to look for something new, something that would make us happy once again.…

Striving towards the achievement of happiness is what most people do, they make it their one most admired goal in life. John Stuart Mill, in Chapter V “A Crisis in My Mental Health. One Stage Onward.” of his autobiography, claims that if we yearn for happiness and make it our ultimate goal, it will automatically become unachievable. If we divert our attention toward something other than our own happiness, achieving it will become effortless. The journey through the enjoyments of life are what gives us happiness, but if we make it our goal we have failed.…

Many people in the world blame inequality in the world on race, religion or the amount of intelligence of a civilization, but that's not why. Inequality is simply caused by geography. Geography affects the way a civilization becomes more developed compared to others because, geography controls climate which affects the type of food a civilization can grow, and what type of animals it can domesticate. Domesticated animals and efficient crops give a civilization time to develop new ideas and invent tools that can help the dominate other cultures.…

Inequality for African Americans first surfaced during the antebellum period in American History. Government officials recognized then as three fifths human while majority of white Americans viewed them as property. Following the end of the civil war, President Lincoln and government officials attempted to correct the omission of African American citizenship (Rubin). Officials began with the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, renounced the ownership rights of slave owners. Subsequently, the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were adopted to grant African Americans with second-class citizenship (Rubin). However, those amendments did not equate Blacks to their White counterparts. In 1876, African Americans were faced with discrimination…

As is the case with most public health dilemmas, there is no black and white solution to the issue of health inequalities. Health inequalities do persist in part because of economic disparities, but the issue cannot justly be reduced to an ideological debate. The examination of the social determinants of health paints a compelling picture to the contrary. The boundaries between the effects of race, gender and class are blurry at best. Such factors as education, social context, economic status, and access to services are deeply intertwined – further muddying the waters. Yet, we are compelled to study address determinants and factors because they seem to bear heavily on the quality of societal health. Race, class – both social and economic – and gender each play significant roles in…

    Inequalities In America

The word “opportunity” is defined as the circumstance available to achieve one’s goals. It is a word that is especially applicable to America; the idea of America as nation where anybody has the opportunity to succeed is so embedded into the American identity that “opportunity” has transcended its dictionary definition. It has become an intrinsic part of the American Dream, a word ingrained with the history of many generations. To many, America is often considered the land of opportunity; from the earliest colonizers, who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean for religious freedom and economic gains, to pioneers who traveled in wagon trains to the American west in pursuit of gold and land, to immigrants throughout history who have come to America for a better life. America has always been seen as a place where people can strive to improve their lot in life, as long as they had the determination and perseverance to do so. Despite this idealistic image of America, however, it is not always supported in reality. We should aim to appreciate, to strive for, to live the ideal that hard work leads to success, but we should also acknowledge…

After reading this story, I found that I do not agree with this quotation. Different people may have different standard of happiness. Even the life is reversed, there is not much different. We will have the same length of life. Benjamin spends his childhood with his grandfather. They discuss with tireless monotony the slow event of the day, like old cronies. When he grows up, he looks like his father’s brother. Benjamin’s wife is younger than him for twenty years. However, Benjamin must see her gets older and older. Finally, her appearance makes her like his mother. At the same time, he has to call his son uncle in front of the guests. In addition, Benjamin has become a classmate of his grandchild! At this time, even Benjamin has gain a lot of experiences, his physical condition do not allow him to do much. He cannot understand the meaning of the words. He cannot remember what he did before. Just like the children and elderlies in real life. They have to be taken care by others and they cannot control nor do whatever they want. Even the life is reversed, I think people cannot be happier.…
