Light vs. Dark imagery
1. I. v. 57-60. “Come, thick night, and pall in the dunnest smoke of hell, that my keen knife see not the wound it makes, nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark.”
This quote shows how much Lady Macbeth does not want the heavens to see the atrocity she is about to commit; she doesn’t want any guilt to form and be able to hide what she is doing from the heavens. She still is very conscious about her actions and doesn’t want anyone watching her because she feels as though she will be judged for what is being done.
2. II. i. 6-7. “There is husbandry in heaven;/ their candles are all out.”

V. v. 23. “Out, out, brief candle!”
This candle image represents life and how easily it can be put out. Macbeth’s command shows how he no longer cares about his life, and he wishes it to be extinguished. The image of the candle demonstrates Shakespeare’s use of light imagery all through Macbeth.
7. I. iv. 51-53. “Stars, hide your fires. Set not light my black and deep desires. The eye wink at the hand yet let that be which the eye fears, when it is done, to see.”
What Macbeth is saying is that he wishes for heaven to look away because he does not want God to be aware of Macbeth’s plan to kill Duncan. He doesn’t want anyone higher than him seeing him commit any sort of crime so he won’t feel guilty.
8. V. v. 35. “I gin to be aweary of the sun.”
Macbeth is scared of the sun, Malcolm, but he doesn’t want to be frightened of Malcolm so he tells all of his troops not be frightened as well, just do he can make himself feel more confident and “brave” before he goes to battle. Macbeth is gotten scared of any light since he’s always murdered from darkness, so he doesn’t want to be around light because it’ll seem like everyone is watching his every move, watching if he’ll commit murder
