At first, Lightning thinks nothing of it, but then curiosity begins to creep into his mind. He can't help but wonder why Doc shows such a negative attitude towards going fast and racing altogether, that is until Lightning finally has a conversation with him about it, leading to the discovery of why Doc acts the way he does. Lightning is shaken by the fact that the car in front of him has gone through some of the things he had, which strikes him as odd. Why didn't Doc support him? It's not like I'm going to get into a crash like he did! Lightning must have thought, still keeping that proud and arrogant shield up. His mindset changed in a way, but he couldn't show it. He refused to allow himself to be sensitive in this state, replacing his fear of missing his shot at winning with anger. The thought of someone getting hurt from the races still settled into the back of his mind, only showing itself once one of his competitors got hurt, proving that he had learned things from his stay at Radiator
