In this article David Ramsey used the hook “I Will Forever Remain Faithful”. Which was interesting to me, I asked myself what faithful does Ramsey talking about. It was issue in 2008 of The Oxford American. “The story is ostensibly a personal essay about how Lil Wayne indirectly helped the author survive his first year teaching in New Orleans, but it also acts as music criticism and a reported piece. The vignettes by turn expose the reader to Lil Wayne’s appeal, Ramsey’s students, and in the process, New Orleans. Slowly, subtly, slyly, we see what makes Lil Wayne so great, and even more slyly, we fall for him, too – in new ways”. The story is how Lil Wayne helped the author survive
his first year teaching in New Orleans, also played as music criticism and a reported piece. The author loves the way of Lil Wayne sing, and the social justice of teaching. Ramsey’s brought 25 real vignette which made the article so interesting. David Ramsey combined between Rap music and the way of teaching the student, the article was interesting to me because some of Lil Wayne songs, is present Ramsey’s student. When Ramsey asked his students what favorite singer, ninety person chose Lil Wayne, the students ask Ramsey “ do you listen to Lil Wayne? He answered “sometime, yes I did listen to Lil Wayne”, the students were shock by that. One of the student ask “did you listen to the mix tapes?” After that, Ramsey start listening to the mix tapes rest of the year.
“Lil Wayne slurs, hollers, sings, sighs, bellows, whines, croons, wheezes, coughs, stutters, shouts. He reminds me, in different moments, of two dozen other rappers. In a genre that often demands keeping it real via being repetitive, Lil Wayne is a chameleon, rapping in different octaves, paces, and inflections. Sometimes he sounds like a bluesman, sometimes he sounds like a Muppet baby” As Ramsey explain Lil Wayne is unique rapper that no one like him. Lil Wayne has his own style, rapping in different octaves, paces, and inflections.
Most interesting vignette in the article was Michael’s story, it was experience life related to Lil Wayne songs. Ramsey used a strong tactic to engage the reader. One of them was Michael’s life. Michael was a student who gave Ramsey the mix tape, Michael life was so bad because he was one of the biggest drug dealers in his neighborhood, also was the one of the best student. Coming worst Ever since I was little, I lived life numb. When Michael stopped going to school. His mother told him, “You are man now. There’s nothing more I can do.” It was the sadness life in New Orleans.
The author engaged the music world and education world in one article, “That I wasn’t from New Orleans didn’t much matter, so long as I was game to clap and dance and sing. It was a clear and sunny day, Lil Wayne was the greatest rapper alive, and school was out. It was time to have fun”. He mentions the greatest thing about Lil Wayne, and what Lil Wayne does to his hometown New Orleans. Descried how Lil Wayne is unique rapper “Ain’t nobody”. Ramsey let the reader imagine how’s New Orleans looks like, by giving 25 vignettes, one of them was a story about Michael and how he struggle in life.
