Biography of Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.
Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. who is better known as Lil Wayne is an American rapper. Lil Wayne was born on September 27, 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Carter mother was a 19 year old chef when he was born. At age 2 Carter’s parents got divorced and his father permanently abandoned him and his mother. While he attended Lafayette Elementary School he was enrolled in the schools gifted program and once he reached secondary school at Eleanor McMain Secondary School he became involved in the drama club.

When Lil Wayne was 13 he accidently shot himself with a 9mm handgun, luckily, off Duty police officer Robert Hoobler drove him to the hospital. When he was at McMain Magnet School, Carter was an honor roll student but dropped out at 14 to pursue his musical career.
In 1997 Lil Wayne joined the Hot Boys along with rappers Juvenile, B.G., and Turk. The Hot Boys released their debut album “Get It How U Live”. Two years later they released Guerrilla Warfare. It reached the Number 1 spot on Billboard magazine Top Hip Hop/R&B album chart. Along with Number 5 on the Billboard’s 200. He was also featured on Juvenile’s single “Back that Azz Up” which reached Number 18 on the Billboard hot 100. Carter debuted his first solo album “The Block is Hot” when he was 17 with help from the Hot Boys. The album went platinum and number 3 on Billboard’s album charts, it was also earned source magazine’s award nomination for “Best New Artist”. In 2000 his follow-up album “Lights Out” did not attain the same level of success as his first album; it was certified gold by RIAA. Critics said that he hadn’t reached the level of maturity to the rest of the Hot Boys. Before he released his second album Lil Wayne was featured on the single “1#Stunna” with Big Tymers and Juvenile. Once again with his 3rd album “500 Degreez” failed to compare to his first, the title was referenced to Juvenile’s album “400 Degreez” Although with his past two down fails in the summer of 2004, Lil Wayne released his album “The Carter”.
Critics said that it was advancement in his rapping style and lyric theme. “The Carter” sold 878,000 copies in the United Sates. After the release of “The Carter”, Lil Wayne was featured in Destiny’s Child’s single “Solider” with T.I., which reached Number 3 on the U.S. Hot 100 and the U.S. R&B charts. “The Carter II” brought even more fame to Wayne, selling 238,000 copies in the first week. It debuted number 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, it sold 2,000,000 copies worldwide. In 2005, Lil Wayne was named president of Cash Money and in the same year he founded Young Money Entertainment as an imprint of cash money. Although in 2007 he stepped down from the management of both labels and has handed management over to Cortez Bryant. Following his step down he released his new album “The Carter III”, it sold over a million copies in the first week and becoming 2008’s best-selling album. The album was delayed from its original date because the tracks were leaked and distributed on mixtapes. Lil Wayne embraced the leaks and turned the leaked albums to make a separate album called “The Leak”. In 2011 Lil Wayne released his most recent album “The Carter IV”, which debuted number 1 on the Billboard 200 with 964,000 in the first week. Prior to “The Carter IV”, Lil Wayne released a mixtape called “Sorry for the Wait”. It was named as an apology to his fans for the delay time
of his new album. The album featured songs from “The Cater IV”. Lil Wayne currently has four children Reginae, Dwayne III, Cameron, and Neal. Reginae was born when Wayne was 15 years old with his high school love Antonia Carter, who he later married and divorced. Lil Wayne currently owns young money records which features Drake, Tyga, T-Pain, and Nicki Minaj. He has had a few run in’s with the cops, in 2009 he was charged with marijuana possession and criminal possession of a weapon, where he served a year in prison at Rikers Island. Lil Wayne is currently working on an album that is to be released in the summer of 2012.
