Linear Algebra
In my opinion, overloading Linear Algebra helps me to achieve greater academic potentials and develop further insights into Mathematics. I petition to overload for two specific reasons:

First, overloading allows me a chance to participate in off-campus study programs. As a potential double major in Mathematics and Philosophy, I aspire to minor in French and study in France for one semester. Therefore, overloading makes it possible to fulfill my academic plans.

Second, overloading motivates me to make further advancement. I have decided to stay in Math 112, because I try to see the logics behind the theorems. Meanwhile, my passion in Math inspires me to explore new knowledge. Linear algebra will grant me better understanding in both pure

It helps me understand the world around me, making it possible to find solutions to key problems. The fields of biochemistry, physics, computer science, and engineering interest me the most because they offer innovative ways to solve major problems. With biochemistry, I can diagnose, cure, and prevent diseases currently beyond our grasp. Physics allows me to discover entirely new sources of energy and solving many significant problems. Computer science and engineering allow me to analyze data and create devices that can assist people.…

Another key point mentioned was the method of redundancies being removed. The current college system, like the newspaper industry, has built-in redundancies, new Internet efficiencies will lead to fewer researchers and professors. The Internet makes it harder to justify these redundancies, even if they bring a great cultural value (Chaffee, 2012, p. 92). Removing these traditional redundancies will allow learners to get to the depth of their study as opposed to constantly reviewing unnecessary items we have become use to.…

    1. The author (Ostrander) emphasizes that students should not stress out over choosing a major. He tells us that what one majors in is less important than the overall qualities, knowledge base, and the skills that one develops. Ostrander also points out that a major is much less important than the skills that people gain by using a quote from an executive, “I look for people who take accountability, responsibility and are good team people over anything else. I can teach the technical.”…

Originally, I did not enjoy math when I was in Vietnam because the teachers focused too much on strict memorization, while giving little attention to applications. However, when I started school in America in my sixth grade year, my passion for math developed. Initially, it was the only subject in which I excelled, due to my disadvantage of not speaking English, but eventually finding an answer to a math problem would become an adventure for me. I never gave up on finding an answer even if it meant working from sun to sun. Throughout my high school years, I have always maintained an A plus in all of my math, science, and Latin courses. Also, I was the student who scored highest in my school, a 98, on the Algebra II End of Course exam. I presently taking College Algebra and…

Specialization: does it belong in higher education? Some say yes, because it creates much more intelligent individuals in their respective fields. Others say no, because without the liberal arts, individuals will lack the necessary skills to succeed in today’s work environment. Both sides have well supported arguments, and often when one begins to think they’ve made a decision on which they agree with, they are swayed the other way. After reading, “Should Undergraduates Specialize?” by Patrick Allit, and, “Liberal Arts: A Practical View.” by Mark Jackson, I have formed my opinion and what I feel like is a suitable answer to the question above. I believe that students should have a choice. If they feel like they’re ready to dive into what they know they want to do, let them. But if the student feels like they aren’t one hundred percent sure, they should be able to take a wide variety of courses that allow them to eventually choose a major to specialize.…

Thus began my movement in high school and undergraduate sciences. As I began to read these chemistry and physics books, I noticed that math played an integral part in many higher order sciences. No longer could I put learning math proficiently off, as it was impeding me. And so I powered through mathematics, learning algebra and calculus just to understand physics and chemistry. Before I knew it, I was in high school. Many of my peers struggled with their workload, but I realized that all I had to do was continue learning the way I always had,…

After taking calculus for nearly two semesters, I discovered that I loved that subject far more than I had anticipated. By the end of my first semester, I knew that I wanted to pursue a major that had calculus at its core; but I also wanted it to expand and complicate the material that I had already learn. After some thought, I realized that I would be committed and superfluously content to pursue a degree in physics. When I first took the subject itself in high school, I found myself intrigued with the material. At first, I found some of the topics could be challenging: but very rewarding.…

I'll think about how math will really have a great impact in my future. Math is very important in your job and just overall life so I should motivate myself with ideas. I started advanced English and math in fourth grade, and still take advanced classes today. My two favorite subjects are math and science. I love how broad science is and how somehow, everything connects to form the world we live in. My favorite aspect of math is how definite it is. I am able to find ways to solve problems, and apply that method to different types of problems. The combination of science and math interests me, because it mixes a very concrete thing and an always-changing field of study. My two favorite subjects led me to a STEM degree, and I know I want math and science involved with my career.…

    1. Introduction Before we give the definition of a Markov process, we will look at an example: Example 1: Suppose that the bus ridership in a city is studied. After examining several years of data, it was found that 30% of the people who regularly ride on buses in a given year do not regularly ride the bus in the next year. Also it was found that 20% of the people who do not regularly ride the bus in that year, begin to ride the bus regularly the next year. If 5000 people ride the bus and 10,000 do not ride the bus in a given year, what is the distribution of riders/non-riders in the next year? In 2 years? In n years? First we will determine how many people will ride the bus next year. Of the people who currently ride the bus, 70% of them will continue to do so. Of the people who don’t ride the bus, 20% of them will begin to ride the bus. Thus: 5000(0.7) + 10, 000(0.2) = The number of people who ride bus next year. = b1 By the same argument as above, we see that: 5000(0.3) + 10, 000(0.8) = The number of people who don’t ride the bus next year. = b2 This system of equations is equivalent to the matrix equation: M x = b where 0.7 0.2 0.3 0.8 5000 10, 000 b1 b2…
