Lion King And Hamlet Comparison Essay
Many people do not know this, but various Disney movies are based on ancient tales. For example, the movie Lion King contains many of the same aspects and occurrences as Shakespeare's Hamlet, but their stories are not exactly the same. The families in Hamlet and Lion King are both royalty , both kings are murdered by their brother, but these two stories have different endings.
Accordingly, in the tales Hamlet and Lion King most of the main characters consist of a royal family. The family in Hamlet begins with Old Hamlet, the king; Gertrude, the queen and wife of Old Hamlet; Hamlet, the prince and son of Old Hamlet and Gertrude; and Claudius, the brother of Old Hamlet. Each prince also had a separation from the one’s that they loved most in order to revenge their father’s deaths. In the process of completing their tasks their uncles also poisoned their mothers, leaving them without any parents. Although their journeys sound quite similar so far, they also have many differences. Toward the end of Hamlet, Hamlet’s love, Ophelia, went mad and drowned; he accidentally killed her father, Polonius; and he also killed her brother, Laertes, when he attempted to murder Hamlet with a sword that had been dipped in a highly potent poison. After all of this had occurred Hamlet took the same sword that killed Laertes and would soon kill him and slit Claudius’s throat and made him drink the drink that poisoned his mother.( Hamlet 174,175) On the other hand in Lion King after Scar killed Simba’s father and poisoned his mother only one more death occurred. Simba and Scar had a spine-chilling battle where Simba killed Scar. After that Simba became king and Nala became queen, and the land returned to its prosperous state.
