6.3 billion people are culturally diversified in the world. A culture consists of countless multicultural components consisting of values, beliefs, attitudes, and customs. Culture can transform anyone. There are many examples of different cultures. For example, culture can be expressed by language, clothing, their house, religion, and much more. Authors communicate their cultural differences through books to show what it is like to live in a specific culture. Throughout my first book, If I Ever Get Out Of Here, each character had different cultural components to their life. Lewis Blake , one of the main characters, lives through life challenges every day. He is not blessed with things that most people have. For example, his house is caving in,…

I really enjoyed reading My Life in Dog Years. I am also a dog lover so I could relate completely to Paulsen’s point of view. I wish I could be around dogs as much as he is in this story. The dogs just seem to come out of nowhere and are attracted to him. I think that this book is a good book for children to read that is realistic fiction because it was realistic but there weren’t really any controversial issues. I enjoy that this book is an autobiography about his relationship with dogs, not just stories about dogs. I think it is important that he showed how pets could affect your life directly. I think this book shows that pets are good companions and can change your life.…

Three types of ineffective listening I found in the breakup are pseudo listening, stage hoggers, and selective listening. Pseudo listening is where one pretends to listen to another and isn’t fully paying attention. An example from the movie is in the beginning when Gary comes home to Brooke cooking dinner and he sits down on the couch to watch his sports. Brooke asks Gary to help her with some things before their dinner guests arrive and he is too distracted by the TV to listen, so he just acts like he’s acknowledging what she’s saying so he can watch his sports in peace. A stage hogger is where someone turns a conversation into a discussion that’s all about them. In the movie Gary becomes a stage hogger when he’s playing video…

As, I was trying my best to attentively listen to my younger brother telling me a story, the AHA! Method played a significant role. However, one difficult factor about the AHA method was to stay in the here and now since at several times throughout the story, I would get distracted by my surroundings and lose focus. This made it exceptionally difficult for me to display to my sibling that I was being an attentive listener, throughout the story from beginning to end. However, I attempted my absolute best to physically and verbally assure him that I was attentively listening, for example; nodding and agreeing with what is being said. This helped encourage them to keep talking. His story was personal in which required me to be sensitive and make…

There are many styles of music like gospel, R&B, classical, jazz, country and many others. The style and artists that represents my listening style is not just one particular person but a whole genre. Gospel music is the style of music that keeps me focused with day-to-day issues, with artist like Mary Mary and Donnie McClurkin. These people have voices with soul that touches my heart. The songs they sing are from real life experiences. Mary Mary have taken their life story and put it on television for the world to know that what they sing about is real. I really admire these ladies because of the privileged they offer people with one of their show “Sunday’s Best.” With this show they help those that are pursuing a career as a gospel singer. Co-hosting with Mary Mary is Donnie McClurkin. He is a Bishop, who gives more of himself than it is possible. He has traveled to many places in this world to offer his help where it was needed. He is also the type of person that comes with his arms open wide. Another reason I admire Mary Mary so much is because they are sisters that go through their sibling rivalry, but are always there for one another. I relate to this because of the relationship I have with my sister. We have our battles, but we are always there in the time of need.…

    Listening Analysis

Listening does not come as natural for me as it does for others. I am always either being distracted or simply just spacing out, especially in class. Tuning out the lessons is easy when I am bored and or tired. Yet, I try my best when it comes to communicating with friends and family. I have been told that I have selective hearing and it does get me in trouble, a lot. There are times when I am in a middle of a conversation, where I don’t catch on to what the person is talking about and I end up just nodding and smiling like I understand. Or I’ll end up saying something of opposite and at that moment feel stupid and look like an idiot who totally missed the whole discussion. Either way, listening is a skill that I am constantly working on.…
