Listeriosis Although there are countless types of infectious diseases around the world, a great majority of them are preventable. Infectious diseases are disorders caused by organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites (Mayo Clinic, 2016). Listeria is not a commonly mentioned disease, however it has the potential to be deadly when not identified or serious symptoms are overlooked. This foodborne, infectious disease is caused by a gram stain-positive motile bacterium named Listeria monocytogenes. There are several ways to transmit Listeria, take control measures, and identify its reservoirs.

In general, the disease is transmitted to humans primarily through contaminated food or fluids. With that being said, it

The bacteria can enter human cells and possibly multiply inside them creating more serious symptoms or side effects. In order to take control measures for this disease, it is to essential to identify symptoms related to listeria and treating them as soon a feasible. These symptoms include, fever, muscle aches, gastroenteritis, and in some cases the organism can spread to the brain. Avoiding food that is not pasteurized, washing the food and cooking it to the recommended temperatures in accordance with FDA guidelines will minimize the risk of exposure.
Food and water sources which harbor disease-causing organisms like listeria serve the potential for disease outbreaks. Reservoirs of listeria are contaminated foods and fluids that are consumed.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is important to identify the control measures for listeria in order to prevent the disease. Ensuring the community is aware of the modes of transmission and its reservoirs will assist the end state of preventing and promoting a healthy community. Education is a key factor in getting the point across to the farmers, grocery stores, food handlers and the
