In the sentence the word, fearing was stating that he was scared of what he did not know as he had not truly accepted the loss of his love and the tapping on the door brought him a sense of hope, but also brought fear, But this wasn't his only use this poem was filled with an immense amount of words. Where the raven spoke and said, but a single word “Nevermore” (Line 48). The word nevermore in the dictionary means never again so when he asks the raven will I see my wife again and the response being nevermore it stirs about tender emotions. He refers to “...Melancholy burden bore” (Line 64) when Poe says melancholy he is expressing his prolonged gloomy state of mind do to his wife dying and leaving him in lament. Although he used an immense amount of negative diction it was not limited as he also used negative imagery. Where he said “All my soul within me burning” (Line 31) this is negative as he is saying that is feeling that makes him feel as though he is being burned alive. The next use of a gothic element was “velvet violet lining” (Line 76) the use of the color provided it was violet showed sorrow or sadness as a dark color.
