The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald was a very complex novel which covers many social issues through its overall structure. Throughout the novel, the author uses imagery, symbolism, characterization and many other devices to portray his ideas. The novel also shows the great power wealth, decision, and love has in the world and in our own lives. I personally enjoyed the style of the novel which causes a vivid image in my head as I read along. I too believe that some of the most important literary techniques to analysis to further understand the novel are color, characterization, and symbolism.

The point of view from the novel doesn't only portray the story in a different way but it also has major effects on a central character like Gatsby. For the novel the story was told in the first-person point of view, meaning that it was told from a character’s perspective. I was able to tell that the story was told from the first-person point of view do to the uses of “I” and “my” throughout the novel. In the novel Fitzgerald writes, “Gatsby's wonder when he first picked out the green light at the end of Daisy's dock ... his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it. He did not know that it was already behind him.” (Fitzgerald 9) What he means is, Gatsby’s dream was impossible to attain since he already had it, but Gatsby still dreamed of something better leaving him unsatisfied. He was never pleased by the stuff he owns and surrounded himself by the shallowness of the upper class, which made him miserable. He too wasn’t satisfied after the hard work to reconnect with his love, Daisy, he wanted more of her he wanted her to be like she was in the past.
Comprehending the symbolism of the American Dream throughout the novel doesn't only make the novel much more understandable, but it creates a connection to the reader's life.
In conclusion, Fitzgerald novel ‘The Great Gatsby’ consist of many literary devices that bring life to the story and without them the experience wouldn’t be the same. Being able to understand these techniques throughout the story are of great importance to the overall novel and message. In my analysis, I was able to
