The story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” by Mark Twain has multiple literary tools within the story. The story is about a persistent gambler that that goes by the name of Jim Smiley and he feels that he can win in every situation. Mark Twain asserted a conceited and cocky tone in his story through the character Smiley to demonstrate that people can’t win every situation because there is always going to be something out of your control.
