Literature Genres

All writing can be put into different styles of genre. Genre are categories of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter. In the study of literature genre; our categories will be looked at Prophetic Lawsuit, Wisdom Literature, Narrative of Comedy, and Revelation as Epistle. During this study of literature genre, figure of speech will be studied as it applies to writing and how it changes the meaning of a sentence. Since all literature can be placed in categories of genre it is important to understand what can be gained by breaking up the bible into literature genres. For example, literature narratives tell a story, as it happened, it tells the event by event information.
To read a Comedy genre, first is to decided what makes this historical? Second what is the setting of the story? Third What does it contribute to the theme of the over all book? Fourth What is the application of the speech or how can this be used in todays world? The Prophetic Lawsuit literature genre is when the prophet is speaking as Israel is on trial, or Israel is being accused of acts against God. The rules to use when reading Prophetic Lawsuit genre are; read it all the way through, and write down observations, list the ways the book challenges Christians to see the world and what is the theme of the story? The genre of Wisdom Literature is used to teach people to record observations about what works or fails in life, based on creation? Biblical Wisdom Literature reflects on the task and effects of instruction (Fontaine,1984). Biblical Wisdom Literature really differs from the rest of the canon, it does not go into the history, significance or future of Israel (Brand, Mitchell, & Staff, 2015). The way to understand this form of literature is to read it all the way through; write down observations throughout the study, list ways the book challenges
Irony is when a writer says something but means the complete opposite, also known as sarcasm. Compared to Litotes which is an ironical understatement in which an affirmative is expressed by a negative. When a writer use Euphemism, they are using other word substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant.
