MAN231 Semester Test 2013 – feedback on Question 3
It was clear from some answers given that there are students who do not read much about the outside world.
You need to read a lot/improve your general knowledge/know what’s going on around you - then you would better have success in answering applied questions as you would have many ideas and examples.
Keeping up to date with current events, reading business news, attending lectures, tutorials etc. all help to give ideas and provide hooks to remember things.

Q3 - SWOT ANALYSIS OF TRAVEL AGENCIES IN SOUTH AFRICA
Many students confused threats with weaknesses and also opportunities with strengths. The guideline to remember is that strengths and weaknesses are internal factors and opportunities and threats are external factors.
Below is a list of various students’ answers for this question.

STRENGTHS
Offer customers benefits of booking for accommodation and transport abroad
Are informed about international bargains and special offers with regard to accommodation and transportation
Have well trained employees and consultants who are highly knowledgeable about customer requirements
Offer personal assistance and communication instead of anonymous communication offered by online services
Offer bargains/special deals for students
Offer personalized trips, offer insurance to make passengers feel safer on trips and inform about trusted vacation spots
Provide discounts as they connect people to airlines, hotels and other aspects associated with holidays
Have a website which customers can access any time
Use the internet to reach and communicate with existing and potential customers e.g. sending emails and adverts
Use the internet to advertise deals on packages to travel intern or domes

WEAKNESSES
Poor or ineffective marketing strategies as they are not easily identifiable
Transport cost for customers to travel to their offices (can be seen as weakness or threat depending on how it is phrased)
