In the quote He is saying that Lady Macbeth’s death is actually a nuisance that a problem and he is also saying that if she died in another time he would have cared more and that he could actually morn her death, on the other hand when ross and macduff were talking about how much they hate Macbeth and what they will do to get him off the throne ross tells macduff about the death and macduff takes it very hard and says in anger and regret, “My children too?/ He has no children. All my pretty ones? / Did you say all? O hell-kite! All?” This shows that macduff cares about his family and which shows he is a good and caring husband who just made bad decision, macduff takes it very hard at first he doesn’t believe that, that’s true and he just keeps believing that ross was lying and that that’s not true, also he feels that he is responsible for their deaths because he left them without any protection, but most of all he is angry and he is just thinking what he is going to do to Macbeth when he sees him he is going to get revenge for his loss by killing Macbeth. This will have a direct influence on the actions the character performs, because of their lack of knowledge on the situation. Macbeth believes that chances of him being defeated are none, because the witches procephied "the power of man, for none of woman born, Shall harm Macbeth" (IV.i.70-71). But to Macbeth's dismay, Macduff was untimely ripped from his mother's womb meaning his was not born by natural childbirth (V.vii.15-16). MacDuff acknowledges this violent truth, but when prompted, does not act on that truth. Instead, MacDuff goes as far as to lie and completely avoid the truth in order to avoid the consequences that the truth would bring, Ross asks of MacDuff, “Is’t known who did this more than bloody deed?”(2.4.24-31), and MacDuff responds, “Those that macbeth hath slain…

A significant event in this story was when Macbeth murdered Duncan. This struck uneasiness throughout Scotland and some people feared for their lives. Malcolm and Donalbain especially were afraid because they believed; “There’s daggers in men’s smiles.” (Act II sc (iv), ln 165) Banquo’s murder is a fearful moment as well. Macbeth orders murderers to kill Banquo by saying; “Who wear our health but sickly in his life,/ Which in his death were perfect.” (Act III sc (i) lns 119-120) Macbeth is the cause of his innocent friend’s death and he does it purely for his own benefit and personal gain. Macbeth also causes the death of Macduff’s family. He says to Macduff; “My soul is too much charged with blood of thine already.” (Act V sc (viii), lns 6-7) when Macduff challenges him. The family has neither harmed nor threatened Macbeth in any way. There is pity felt for the deaths of these innocent people and fear of the murderous Macbeth throughout Scotland. This fear and pity adds to the point that Macbeth is a…

To relate the manner/where on the quarry of these murders.” (4.3.240-244) This quotes shows he had really become power hungry. His actions caused Macduff to turn against him. Macduff helps develop the theme of evil and supernatural. His actions towards Macbeth and his name being mentioned as a threat in the second set of prophecies make Macbeth commit one of his darkest deeds. This action shows evil because Macbeth sends assassins to an unguarded castle to kill many innocent people including Macduff’s family. Macduff helps to develop the theme of loyalty and patriotism. He does so by going to England to get the true heir Malcolm and military allies to free Scotland of Macbeth. Finally, Macduff shows guilt for leaving his family after finding out that Macbeth slaughtered his family. He…

    Theme Of Power In Macbeth

He also came to realize that Macbeth was the one that ordered his family to be killed. “… Tyrant, show thy face! If thou beest slain, and with no stroke of mine, My wife and children’s ghosts will haunt me still.” (V.vii.19-21) Macbeth is a malicious character who wishes evil to others. He admits to this at the end of the play. Macduff admonishes Macbeth to openly face his consequences. Macduff is truly hurt from the loss of his family and wants Macbeth to die by his own hands. “Once caught by the devil’s bait, only at the end is he able to express his inward state openly in outward appearance.” (Davidson 53) Macbeth openly admits that he is a hopeless tyrant living a worthless life. His deeds came back around him in a way that the evil he did to others started to punish him. From Lady Macbeth’s death to his own, Macbeth lost everything due to his greed. Instead of being a holy king, Macbeth chose to follow the path of evil by initiating a trial of murders. Macbeth’s courage contradicts itself because in Act I, Scene II he was praised for his bravery while in Act V he is a hopeless king fighting for his life. He came to realization that his life came to a bitter end. Ultimately, Young Siward’s death was more significant than Macbeth’s, because he died fighting for others while Macbeth fought for himself. After all, Macbeth’s only goal was to keep his position of the throne away from all,…

    Theme Of Guilt In Macbeth

The only thing he had to worry about was Macduff and his family, so he sends for them to all be murdered, of course, the only difference between this time and all the other times is that Macbeth feels nothing after they are killed. He sees no ghost and he hears no voices telling him to, “Sleep no more!” (II.ii.34-35), he feels nothing by this point in the play. His wife dies and all he has to say is, “She should have died hereafter. There would have been a time for such a word” (V.v.17-18). His arrogance begins to show as he fights Young Siward. Macbeth was given the apparition that only a person not born of a woman can kill him, and everyone is born of a woman, so he has nothing to worry about. Whenever Macbeth slaughters Young Siward states, “Thou wast born of woman. But swords I smile at, weapons laugh to scorn, brandish by man that’s of a woman born” (V.vii.12-14), with no guilt whatsoever. Macbeth’s lack of guilt and excess of arrogance does eventually cost him his life. Macduff, whose family fell as victims of one of Macbeth’s guilt free murders, enters Dunsinane and finds Macbeth. Ultimately, Macduff kills Macbeth avenging every death Macbeth is responsible…

Macbeth is unimpressed that Macduff has abandoned him and fled to England to persuade Malcolm to fight against him. He orders to “seize upon Fife...and all unfortunate soul that trace him in line”. In essence, Macbeth’s paranoia results in him being more psychologically unstable, but this time about losing his crown rather than being caused by guilt. Also, the witches’ prophecies slowly begin to envelop, causing him to repeat the words for a false sense of confidence. However, Lady Macbeth ultimately gives in to the burden of internal guilt that was previously hidden prior to the sleepwalking scene in Act 5, Scene 1 and commits suicide. In Macbeth’s soliloquy discusses the futility of life, on account that it is meaningless, “signifying nothing”. These words highlight Macbeth’s acceptance of defeat and that all the power he’s acquired mean nothing anymore. During the final scene, the insane Macbeth reiterates witches’ prophecies on the fact that he is invincible. Contrastly, Macduff states that he was “from his mother’s womb untimely ripped”. Therefore, Macduff’s final words result in Macbeth’s inevitable realization of…

    Loss Of Power In Macbeth

    • 876 Words
    • 4 Pages

It is around Act 4 that Macbeth begins to loose his grip on reality and become paranoid; he believes that he is on the precipice of losing all of the power he has illegitimately gained. So, in a brutal ploy to reassert his power and to send a clear warning to his enemies, Macbeth decides to kill Macduff’s, “…wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls//That trace him in his line” (4.2.152-153). This is harsh punishment for a crime that has not yet been perpetrated. Unfortunately for Macbeth his plan backfires. Instead of proving his authority Macbeth undermines it by implying he was too weak to face a qualified opponent like Macduff and instead has to take his fury out on Macduff’s vulnerable wife and child. This is not the only result of the action, when the harsh news reaches Macduff he says, “[h]e has no children” (4.3.217). At face value this quotation means that Macbeth cannot be a father, because no father could commit such an act. And though this is true, there is also a deeper meaning. Part of being a king with absolute power is adopting a paternal role in society. The king rules over the people like a head over the body and a father over his children. So, when the king kills an innocent subject it is as if a father is killing his child or a man cutting off his foot to punish it. It is unnatural and counterproductive. In essence what…

Lady Macduff is involved in one of the very few parent-child scenes of the play, where her playful dialogue with her sons immediately contradict Lady Macbeth. Her entire personality is painted in this one scene, where her outspokenness against her husband’s disloyalty is expressed, unlike Lady Macbeth’s seemingly loving married life. Lady Macduff serves as a sympathetic figure that influences the reader into disliking Macbeth, who is later the cause of her murder, contradicting the reader’s negative opinion on Lady Macbeth.…
