History of Liverpool Football Club
Formed in the year 1892, Liverpool FC has become one of the most successful clubs in the history of English football. Commonly known as the Reds amongst the football fans, Liverpool was formed from the wrangles and the disagreement that was eminent between its founder John Houlding and the management of Everton Football Club (LFCHistory.net 2013, p.3). The disagreement led to the split between the ‘Reds’ and the ‘Blues’. The ‘Reds’ being the current Liverpool while the ‘blues’ being Everton. The club was named after the town where it was founded, Liverpool England.
Since its formation in 1892, Liverpool has played in Anfield as their home ground winning a number of trophies. The club is the second after Manchester United with a total of 19 Premier League cups. Apart from the Premier League silverwares, the club has also dominated the European football market for almost 120 years. LFC brags five European Cups, three UEFA Cups, and three UEFA Super Cups. LFC has had different talents working with the best around the world. The legendary players the clubs will regret retiring from football include but not limited to Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerard, Steve Heighway and Ian Rush (LFCHistory.net 2013, p.5). Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly are some of the legendary managers who it is believed that the culture of the club revolves around their policies and philosophies.
1970s and 1980s were the major turnarounds of the club. Before 1970, LFC struggled to cope with the pressure at the league and always found itself at the relegation zone. The arrival of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley changed the club and leading to 18 silverwares, 11 league cups and seven European Trophies.
