Donald Trump Extinguished DACA which caused the removal of education, employment and opportunity for the "dreamers"; Young immigrants were brought to America for political, economic and social freedom. Furthermore, Elizabeth Redden states that is "creates great uncertainty for the roughly 800,000 young people currently enrolled. According to her statement, the removal of the safety blanket(DACA) for young immigrants ignited a deadly flame that could potentially destroy the future in America. To represent Hector Barrett's point of view by supporting Redden, "to exploit immigration as a political wedge issue...would be both bad government and bad politics...The winding down of DACA is the perfect time for Congress to develop effective, compassionate…
Although this is surely not an act of full on discrimination, I believe it is an unfair treatment. Many of these recipients came into this country at a very young age with no knowledge of what documented or undocumented was. Despite this minor privation all DACA recipients still have one goal, to get a degree to further themselves in this country they know as their own. In the film, historian, Ignacio M. Garcia, said in relation to Gustavo Garcia’s own hardships; “As good as they were, they saw the ceiling quite low outside their community”. As a DACA recipient, Garcia’s statement hit home. Growing up there were many things I was not able to do because I was undocumented and my family was afraid. It was not something you went around and told everyone, although today I embrace it. I was not able to get a driver’s license when everyone else did, nor was I able to apply for jobs. However, my biggest concern yet was, will I be able to attend college. With DACA I have been able to work full-time, drive legally, and attend college. However, this is only temporary. We do not know for how long we have permission to work and study here. Nor do we have any hopes of this leading to citizenship. Just as lawyer Garcia, I can also excel through my college career and earn my degree, but without citizenship not all the opportunity doors open for me to expand outside of my…
Good afternoon senators, I Tim Kaine am here to talk on behalf of Virginia on the pending matter of DACA. As we all know DACA is an American immigrant policy which allows a two-year stay for some individuals who came into the U.S as minors, this allows them to obtain a work permit, driver’s license, the opportunity to go to college or university, and delay their deportation. DACA was established by our former U.S president Barack Obama back in June 15, 2012 during a speech in the Rose Garden of the White House, DACA now protects 800,000 illegal immigrants across the nation. In November of 2015 Obama tried expanding DACA to allow more immigrants to be eligible for application, although in December of 2015 Texas and 25 other states all with Republican…
In 2001, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act was introduced. Since 2000, the reforms or the issues that arise are the increase in border security, expanded interior immigrant enforcement, improvements to employment eligibility verification, legal admissions reforms, and legalization of the millions unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. (Wong and Garcia :4). In 2001, the Dream Act was suggested in order to better relieve issues concerning immigration, specifically the 1.5 generation that were brought at a young age and have lived in the U.S. ever since. The DREAM Act “addresses the legal status of this group by enabling undocumented youth who satisfy certain requirements to legalize and eventually apply for citizenship”…
Denying DACA students the opportunity to attend college while also excluding them from states scholarship funds creates an unfair barrier to a higher education and better future. In defense of these bills the state of Missouri claims that the money they will save by denying these benefits to DACA students will reduce immigration to the state, and allow other citizens to benefit from state aid. Though these benefits to the state do not, and can not outweigh the costs to DACA students that are denied access to a higher education. With the help of private donors, the University of Missouri Kansas City was able to secure funds to cover the difference between instate and out-of-state tuition to Juan Sanchez and twenty other admitted DACA students. However, this funding only covered one semester, DACA students are forced to find another solution to pay this amount of money or quit school. The article concludes with Peleger stating “DACA beneficiary students in Missouri are confronted with a new reality: Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free – but first, show me your legal…
Immigration has been an ongoing debate in the United States for a long time. Every year, there is a growing number of immigrants arriving in the U.S to find a place of refuge while others just want to achieve the American Dream. The American Dream is the idea that people should have the opportunity to succeed despite their circumstances. However, not everyone that enter the United States do so legally. Many do so illegally by being smuggled or overstaying their visit to a friend or family member in the U.S. As a result, the U.S government has made an immense effort to protect the border by ensuring that only the people legally permitted to enter the U.S. can do so. According to the Census Bureau “immigrants added more than 22 million people to the U.S population in the last decade, equal to 80 percent of total population growth.” Many argue that this large number of immigrants has been a result of lack of or poor border security as well as a broken immigration system but that is not always the case.…
One of the most compelling debates facing American public education today is the issue of access for undocumented immigrants. Rights of undocumented or illegal immigrants is a polarizing issue due to political and economic factors. A 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision entitled illegal immigrants to public education from kindergarten through high school; 50,000 to 70,000 graduate from U.S. high schools each year (Holland, G., 2008). The objective of this paper is to analyze the pros and cons of undocumented immigrants receiving public education.…
Some DREAMERS believe that since they don’t have protection from DACA, they should go back into hiding. Many thought that the end of DACA would be announced by the man who ended it, Donald Trump, but it wasn’t. On September 5, attorney general, Jeff Sessions, officially announced that the DACA program “is being rescinded.” This devastating news came as a shocker to the students at John Jay School of Criminal Justice. Emily Veras, a freshman at John Jay who is pursuing a Forensic Psychology Bachelor’s degree states that, “It is disappointing that a program that was providing many immigrants a chance to pursue an education and get a job, is being taken away.”…
The Heritage Foundations, Tim Kane, Ph.D., writes “America’s exceptional status as a ‘nation of immigrants’ is being challenged by globalization. The biggest challenge for policy makers is to distinguish illusory immigration from real problem. The supported approach from recent years ‘a policy of benign neglect’ is no longer an option.” Members from the Senate and House of Representatives both recognize this and should be given credit for their efforts to craft this proposed comprehensive law which today, is known as the ‘Amnesty Plan.’ I strongly agree with this ‘Amnesty Plan’ and feel it needs to be pushed through due to its solid pillars. Such as, having undocumented aliens to pay fines, back taxes, and requiring them to understand and abide by the laws of the U.S.. It also addresses border security and identity theft by illegals that use false information to gain employment.…

Many families who were once living the American dream with all the pleasures of life, have lost everything due to illegal immigration. Immigrants who have entered the United States illegally, and have no documentation with reference of being a citizen are taking minimum wage and part-time jobs from our young adults who are trying to enter the workforce. Due to illegal immigration, every single day criminal gangs are roaming our streets, hospitals are providing free health care, wages are lost and taxes don’t get collected. After all of that, the immigrants who have came into America legally, their Visa(a document issued by a U.S. consular officer that allows immigrants to enter the United States and apply for admission to become a legal residence) expires and they continue to live in the United States and are considered a noncitizen and we are still paying for them. All across America, citizens are standing in grocery store lines trying to make ends meet and they can barely feed their children while watching illegal immigrants use welfare and food stamps to benefit their families ahead of us.…
When it comes to immigration reform, many people have their own opinion on how the United States government should implement immigration policies. We can all agree something needs to be done about it, but no one can seem to agree on what exactly we should do. The Federal DREAM Act has gained astonishing support in the past ten years. Members from both the Democratic and Republican parties have helped draft versions of the proposed bill which has helped gained bipartisan support. Yes, “You can say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one” (Lennon, 1971). The DREAM Act will not excuse an individual for breaking the law; it will provide a minor who unknowingly broke the law at the hands of their parents with an opportunity to earn U.S. citizenship, which will ultimately benefit our country’s economy, our national security and our nation.…
Today our nation is faced with many problems and one that seems to stand out is an immigration reform. Many of those who reside in the U.S may not see it as a big issue, but in reality it really is. An immigration reform would not only help our nation’s struggling economy but it will also allow our government to keep better track of its residents given us a sense of higher security. Those who oppose such reform fear it will only serve to decrease job opportunities due to the increase in completion for places and ultimately burry us deeper in this troubling economy but with an immigration reform, there would be a stop to the separation of families, a boost to the economy and nation’s security will also have its benefits.…
