How Living in a Low Income Area Can Cause Problems in the American Education System

LIVING IN A LOW INCOME AREA
Abstract
People who have low income lack a certain amount of material possessions or money (Doe 23). Children represent 24 percent of the population, but they comprise 34 percent of all people in poverty. Among all children under 18 years of age, 45 percent live in low-income families (N.C.C.P 12). Those children in the 45 percentile do not receive the same educational opportunities as those who grow up in well-rounded families. The teachers who work in the lower income areas as teachers do not have the same pay as those in higher income communities …show more content…
and that affects the way they teach and present information. The teachers don’t want to be there because it is often very dangerous. The kids who have to grow up in the poverty areas often have this “image” that has been passed down from generation to generation where your “not cool” if you do well in school or you’re not interested in drugs because you rather do good in school. Being a child of poverty can make people lower your standers of you because they are just making assumptions based off of what they have seen routinely.

He explains that the kids wanting to be there to learn are being isolated because they don’t want to slack. But the way the teachers are teaching is holding them back.
