Dillard uses many examples to show how humans need to live more meaningful and respectful. One of the first examples is showing how differently and more meaningful a weasel lives. “The weasel lives in necessity and we live in choice, hating necessity and dying at the last ignobility in its talons. I would like to live as I should” (Dillard 3). Dillard says this because is is true humans hate doing what is needed to do but like doing what is not a necessity. Man needs to live more meaningful and more simplistic. Dillard also compares how the wesel does everything it does because it knows only necessity. ¨ A weasel doesn't ¨attack¨ anything; a weasel lives as he is meant to yielding at every moment to the perfect freedom of necessity¨(Dillard). Dillard uses this to show that any other animal except humans live with only necessities. Having so many unnecessary things makes it hard to clearly see the true meaning in life. In the last example Dillard explains how she believes humans should live,” I think it would be well, and proper, and obedient, and pure to grasp your one necessity and not let it go” (Dillard 4).
