The Effects of an
Increase in Income on the Interest Rate
An increase in income leads to an increase in the demand for money.
Given the money supply, this leads to an increase in the equilibrium interest rate. Deriving the LM Curve
Deriving the LM Curve

Equilibrium in money market implies that increase in income leads to increase in the interest rate.

Plot this relationship between interest rate and income: LM curve.
The LM curve is upward sloping.

Why the LM curve is upward sloping
Why the LM curve is upward sloping
• An increase in income raises money demand
An increase in income raises money demand.
• Since the supply of real balances is fixed, there is now excess demand in the money market at is now excess demand in the money market at the initial interest rate.

With large investment being placed into a new fiscal stimulus package, the resulting injection will significantly effect the level of economic output. However, the significance of this change depends greatly upon the positioning of the macro-economic equilibrium before the stimulus. This stimulus package qualifies itself to be a form of fiscal policy, and therefore a form government spending, which is a component of aggregate demand. Therefore due to this large monetary injection from behalf of the AD curve will undergo a rightward shift. That said, as demonstrated on the graph above that the economy is far from reaching full capacity utilization, therefore a shift right in the AD curve has very a slight effect on price level however, a significant change in real GDP. This is due to the fact the economy is still operating on the elastic side of the curve. Moreover, there is the possibility of a rightward shift in aggregate supply as a result of the stimulus injection. This therefore as a consequence will encourage firms to meet the demands of the surge in the aggregate demand curve through the purchase of capital goods in aid of production, new forms of technology and further investment in order to increase capacity utilization. Thus increasing economic output.…

Another policy that may be used to reduce the fiscal deficit is reducing interest rates. Interest rate manipulation is used by the monetary policy committee to stimulate spending or saving within an economy. By cutting interest rates, spending is encouraged and therefore consumption will rise. Consumption is the largest part of AD and thus AD will increase. The MPC may choose to do this as interest rates are flexible and easy to change month by month showing near immediate effect. It is likely that falling interest rates will lead to a…

Research scholar Elline Lipkin discusses modern-day stereotypes that women and adolescent girls face concerning their body image in her article “Girls’ Selves: Body Image, Identity, and Sexuality.” Changes in what is considered a “normal” body type have led these women to aspire to have a certain look: a slender body, flawless skin, and delicate facial features (Lipkin 596). Yield Curve Introduction

    • 403 Words
    • 2 Pages

What is an yield curve and how is it made. The yield curve, is a graph that depicts the relationship between bond yields and maturities, is an important tool in fixed-income investing and attempting to predict future recessions given its track record. Investors use the yield curve as a reference point for forecasting interest rates, pricing bonds and creating strategies for boosting total returns. The yield curve has also become a reliable leading indicator of economic activity.(PIMCO) A yield curve is a line that plots the interest rates, at a set point in time, of bonds having equal credit quality, but differing in maturities. The most frequently reported yield curve compares the three-month, two year, five year and the 30 year U.S. Treasury debt. The yield curve is used as a benchmark for other debt in the market; debts such as mortgage interest rates, bank lending rates and so on. A yield is the interest earned if the bond was purchased at par value and held to maturity. The yield curve takes the spread between the yields paid by short and long term debt. Economists use the yield curve to gage the overall movement in interest rates. (Schwartz 108-109, 115) Yield refers to the annual return on an investment. The yield on a bond is based on both the purchase price of the bond and the interest, or coupon, payments received. Although a bond's coupon interest rate is usually fixed, the price of the bond fluctuates continuously in response to changes in interest rates, as well as the supply and demand, time to maturity, and credit quality of that particular bond. After bonds are issued, they generally trade at premiums or discounts to their face values until they mature and return to full face value. Because yield is a function of price, changes in price cause bond yields to move in the opposite direction. The yield curve is a visual representation of not only the Federal Reserves attitude about the future but also participants in the bond market as well.…

Wrestling is one of the oldest forms of combat with references to it as early as the Iliad, in which Homer recounts the Trojan War in the 13th or 12th century BC.[3] The origins of wrestling can be traced back 15,000 years through cave drawings in France. Babylonian and Egyptian relief's show wrestlers using most of the holds known to the present-day sport. In ancient Greece, wrestling occupied a prominent place in legend and literature; wrestling competition, brutal in many aspects, was the number one sport of the Olympic Games. The ancient Romans borrowed heavily from Greek wrestling, but eliminated much of its brutality.…
