In America, people called lobbyists are paid to influence or pressure lawmakers to legislate or to not legislate a law that would be in the interest of the lobbyist’s employer. Sadly, this is completely legal. Large corporations
or conglomerates such as Lockheed Martin employ lobbyists in order to help win defense contracts. Companies that provide products or services to the government (like Lockheed Martin) are more likely to employ lobbyists. Unfortunately, the influence lobbyists have is out of control.
Racism has been a hot topic since for half a century. Shooting of African Americans by police officers has fueled racial hatred. It isn’t just African Americans, Asians are statistically less likely to be hired for jobs that require social interaction due to the stereotype that Asians cannot socialize or speak English well. Muslims are often called terrorists because of their dress. Even our presidential candidate Donald Trump is racist. Racism is still a real issue in America that will hopefully improve in the years to come.
The previous generation of Americans still have old beliefs and stigmas that don’t apply in the modern world. Many Americans still view atheism, interracial or gay marriage, and racism as completely acceptable. The situation is getting better, as more people are becoming more accepting of these changes. The president approved gay marriage in 2015, paving the way for LGBT rights. All of these changes show that our generation can pave a better road for future generations.
In conclusion, the America I believe in can very well become a reality in the future. The United States government has legislated and approved many laws that would improve life for everyone. The generation after us will look back and see the changes we’ve made to make their lives better. America is a place to be free, to live the dream. America is a great place to live.
