Pine trees are vascular, or having vessels to carry food and water. The roots of the pine trees absorb water from the ground. There are hundreds of species of pine trees. The loblolly pine is native to Maine, and it grows rapidly. A unique feature of the loblolly pine is that it has both male and female structures on the same tree. The loblolly pine is one of the cone-bearing plants called conifers. Conifers do not produce flowers. Conifers separated slowly from the flowering plants millions of years ago.
