The one in america would grow up having food at there disposal at all time. Were as one who grew up in the jungle would have to gather or hunt the food they wanted. Sports has been linked back to the Aztec Indians in the 1500’s. Every culture has had some influence by sports. The Indians played sports, the Africans played, and Europeans played sports. Sports have been a great impact on the world. I can’t remember what it was like not to be in a sport, I have been competing so long. Sports teach adolescents, as well as some younger children integrity, hard work, perseverance, and in some cases maturity, as well as many other much needed aspects to succeed in life. Sports create competitions, and competition brings out the best in athletes, starting with the Olympics. I feel athletics and competition carries over even after athletic careers are done, and you go onto the real world. People are always competing for the better jobs, and benefits that will help themselves, a constant race.…

    A Place Analysis

I was raised in a small, but familiar town on the outskirts of Tallahassee known as Havana. A place where everyone practically knows everyone that lives there. My hometown upholds a sense of charm and southern hospitably in the atmosphere, with the many boutiques and restaurants for one to enjoy. However, I feel that it is a place where more mature individuals could appreciate (like adults), due to its historical nature. To be honest, other than going to school with my friends, as a child there really wasn’t much for me to do when the summer rolled in. Especially, since I was the only girl in a house with two brothers. In fact, majority of my summer vacation was spent at home, with my annoying brothers, “The Terrible Two”. Well, at least that’s what I called them, because they were always finding a way to make fun out of torturing me. From being hit by water balloons unexpectedly, to waking with burning lips from the hot sauce they put on them while I was sleeping, pretty much describes the “summer” moments of my childhood; at least the ones spent with brothers. Until, I suddenly had an epiphany, and begged my mother to let me stay with my grandmother while I school wasn’t in; or at least until she made it home from work. Of course she asked why; although she knew how much my brothers would tease me. She just told me it was there way of showing “brotherly” love, but she understood how annoying it could be, because she too was raised among all boys; in which worked out in my favor, because I no longer spent the summer’s home. She accepted my plea to be free from the “Terrible Two,” and Grandma’s house was to be my new location for summer vacation, which I enjoyed every bit of.…

Gran Torino, a film directed by the immortal Clint Eastwood, tells us a story of redemption and transformation. Eastwood’s character, a Korean War veteran, is living a depressing, lonely life, we are first introduced to him as a racist, bitter old man. The movie takes place in a less than affluent suburb where Eastwood has seen a drastic change in the neighborhood. His neighbors are immigrants, whom Eastwood seems to have a gripe with. The beginning of Eastwood’s transformation and redemption begins when a boy from next door tries to steal his Gran Torino under the pressure from his gangbanging cousin and friends. Eastwood catches the boy and puts him to work in order to keep out of trouble. The interactions between Eastwood and the boy are darkly humorous at first, Eastwood attacks the boy with racial onslaughts and often degrades him. However we see as the film progresses that Eastwood finds a connection with the boy and he begins to show affection towards him. He gets the boy off of the streets and gets him a job doing construction, along with teaching him morals and values, in a way Eastwood is molding the boy for a life he deserves.…

    Essay On Social Location

    • 3 Pages

The importance of knowing one’s social location is imperative to fully understand one’s personal values, goals and relationships with other people, in other words, self-identity. Developing a sense of self is also an essential part of every individual becoming a mature person and for me, a competent social worker. Additionally, having a sense of identity is important because it allows people to stand out as individuals, develop a sense of well-being and importance, and fit in with certain groups and cultures. Each person's self-conception is a unique combination of many identifications, identifications as broad as being either woman or a man, Catholic or Muslim, or as narrow as being a member of one particular family. Throughout this paper I will discuss my personal internal and external forces that act upon my identity. Furthermore, I will reflect on certain aspects of my social location which my influence or cloud my…

On day three, it was my birthday, so the night before, I got to sleep on my own bed. When we got to breakfast, I got a song sung to me. After the morning, we visited Arlington National Cemetery to see where John F. Kennedy was buried and also to see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. Our last stop at D.C. was the Capitol and it wasneat. Afterwards, we took off for New York. I fell asleep right away and woke up just in time to see the skyline and it was beautiful. When we got to the hotel, we went to bed right away because we had a big day ahead of…
